So, I've had a VIC-20 for a while, but I could never get it to work. I had a suspicion that the problem was that the RF modulator I had was damaged (since I could occaisionally see the VIC-20 intro screen through the static, and the modulator itself was rusty). Today, I happened across another RF modulator at the thift store for $2, so I picked it up. Although I at least get a definite picture using it, it's still of terrible quality. The color's fade to black's and dark grey's after a short while, and there is a lot of interference. Sound still behaves properly though, and cartridges seem to work fine (although it's hard to enjoy them with such a poor signal.

Has anyone had any problems like this before? Are VIC-20 RF modulators particularly fragile? I'll have to pick up another VIC when I get the chance, as the problem could be due to the machine itself.
