Default How many Typing Games are there (ALL SYSTEMS)

Okay guys help me out. Since I teach k-12 Typing I am trying to compile a list of Typing games for ALL systems. The game can be a dedicated typing game like Typing of the Dead or it can have a typing mode like Feet of Furry. Recently I saw a keyboard for a Nintendo Console (N64, Gamecube?) at the local import games store but I didn't see any games for it. Did any other system have Typing Games?

Okay so like I said I know of TOD and Feet of Fury...any others?

    Default SEGA Games

Well, besides the Dreamcast games, SEGA also released Typing of the Dead on PC, and modified Space Harrier just like House of the Dead 2 into a typing game. Typing Space Harrier was released only in Europe and Japan I think.

There's also Typing of the Date for Dreamcast (Japanese-only). It's nearly the same game as the dating sim Getter Love!! for N64, but you actually get to "talk" to the girls by typing in phrases and such. Pretty interesting. I've been meaning to pick it up, but I don't have a working Japanese Dreamcast. I think it even has romaji support so you can type in the English alphabet (of course, you still have to be typing Japanese words, though).

    Typing Space Harrier

Thanks for sharing that after a LONG search I actually found the demo to this on Sega of Japan. Probably would have found it quicker if I could read Japanese. Intresting Japanese Words but English letters. For those who would like to download it.

    http://www.sega.co.jp/pc/typharri/trial.html

Filename TSH_TRY.exe Only the first level...but quite hard. Japanese words use the top and bottom rows more than english words.

I also found reference to Typing Outrun but no details, pictures, or demos.

Hmmm this does look intresting. Info on it says it knows 20,000 Japanese phrases. Damn makes you wanna learn Japanese.

I don't remember seeing it on the PC, but I know there's a Mac version from the days of OS 7.5.1 - that's the system I'd get it for

Should also mention this was one of the first software titles I really liked, on any system, seeing how as a kid in 1994 with no PC or video game system taking a computer class at the local community college was an amazing experience.

Type Attack (Apple II, by Sirius Software). I remember this one distinctly.

Also, don't forget Keyboard Creations for the Odyssey2 (or, as I've always called it, SimEarly80sCableAccessChannel.

Another one I have never heard of. I wanted to try this one out. I found a site that has the PC and MAC demos and it indicates that you do not need J-Win to run it but I get Install errors. Of course I'm trying this on a 98se PC I wonder what would happen on a XP.

Yep tried it on XP worked fine

How about ALL text adventures? Infocom and such. They are typing games.

Jeez no. Typing games...teach you how to type. I can think of at least one obscure text adventure I wouldn't ever remember the name of, and in any case there's a ton of them. :o

I do believe Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing, which is primarily an instructional program, contains some typing games.

Type Attack and Typo, which have been mentioned for other systems, also came out for the VIC-20.

I remember playing a game like Type Attack for MS-DOS, but darned if I can recall the name. "Type Invaders," maybe.

Oh, there's a number of Japanese typing games. I have heard several references to some "awful Evangelion typing game", but never learned the details. The Typing of the Dead has also been rereleased for the PC a few times (as TOTD 2003 and TOTD 2004).

Most intriguing is Lupin III The Typing, also based off a shooter.

And then there are the freeware ones... I've heard good things about 3D Typing Racer.

Oh, hey, should we count Giraffe for Palm OS? You can play with a keyboard, too. ;-)
