    Default Mold-the end of everything...f***

ahhhh!!! I hate mold. Im done collecting games except for nes, have no room anymore. My room is in the basement of my house, nice, has drywall and carpeting. If you have seen my gameroom, there are shelves everywhere, but now the botoms had mold. Had to throw them all away. Kept all games but my parents want them in the garage so they dont get mold too. Had to take everything out and put in boxes cept nes stuff. I will stilll buy games but just to trade or sell on ebay. Im selling most of my stuff I never play around christmas time. We painted the walls and put killz on it and shampood the floor but cant take the risk for it to grow again. Ill take pics of my new room soon...it will give somebody a good laugh. This sucks so badly!!!

Gah, carpeting in a basement? Not a great idea, in my opinion. It may be annoying feeling like I'm living in a hospital, but I'm glad my basement apartment has nothing but tiles.

Have you determined what's keeping your basement so moist that it allows mold to grow? I know basements have a tendency to be damp, but perhaps you can take some measures to keep the moisture level down.

Isn't this the second time you've said you weren't going to collect anymore?

Dessicant bags are your friend, especially in a basement environment. I ultimately prefer storage there since the temperature is more regulated than it would be upstairs, heat peeling labels, etc. Boxes don't fade due to dimmer lighting conditions.

Well we have no rooom to put anything down here and my dad said it must go in the garage. So Im going to get some of those big plastic storage containers to put the stuff in. Im still going to keep all nes stuff and the stuff I will actually play. I think its all the rain that we have had in wisconsin lately thta is making it moist. We bleached the walls, put kills on it, and painted them, and did somtehing to the floor. This really sucks. Im pretty sure if we had tiles, this wouldnt have happend since the mold grew on the bottom of some cabinets.

Do you have a dehumidifier running down there? It's a must have for anyone with a basement in Wisconsin this year! Sorry to hear about the mold...make sure the plastic cases you use in your garage are not airtight, or you may end up with the same problem.

    Good luck!

Dehumidifier? Will that prevent mold you think? They keep moisture out? Well I put most stuff in plastic containers with lids in my garage. Is that bad?

I, too, was going to recommend a dehumidifier but GWH beat me to it. It did wonders in my parents' basement.

Humidity is literally moisture in the air. There fore a Dehumidifier would indeed keep moisture out.

Menards has 'em starting around $100 (they're basically a mini air conditioner...think the water drip off a window unit), the bigger the area to dry out, the more expensive they are. They don't necessarily prevent mold, but they do make conditions much less hospitable to it's growth. And it also helps get rid of that musty basement smell.

    Dehumidifiers don't keep moisture out.

Instead, they suck the moisture out of the air and into a plastic basin or a hose that leads outside away from your basement. In the basin version, once the basin fills up, it needs to be emptied.

A dehumidifier is a definite must-have for any basement. If you have a mutli-room situation, you may want to get two or three.

$100 or a couple hundred is nothing to keep your collection safe and dry.
Think of how much you've spent so far to accumulate that much, and how much was ruined.

there 0.02 towards the purchase of a humidifier.
