    NES:

-CastleVania 1-3 (3 has great music, some of the best on the NES IMO.)
    -Metroid
    -Legend of Zelda

    SMS:

Vgmusic also has some cool midis as well.

But anyways, it's all about the megaman 2 soundtrack. I listen to most of the tracks almost daily, and if you think I kid you, I do not, I like it that much.

Some of the best music ever to come from my Master System in my opinion, was thanks to Parlour Games.

    World Bingo especially rocks.

I agree with most of Aussie2B's picks, and would also add:

    Metal Gear 2: Snake's Revenge
    Wizards & Warriors 1 & 2 (IronSword0
    Ninja Gaiden series
    Deadly Towers (Mashou)
    Vice: Project Doom
    Rygar
    Kid Icarus

There are isolated good tracks on:
    The Immortal
    A Nightmare on Elm Street
    Ikari Warriors II: Victory Road
    The Legacy of the Wizard

And for a good laugh, listed to the Magmax soundtrack. Talk about goofy tunes.

    SMS:

    My pics:
    Wonder Boy III
    Zillion 2
    Fantasy Zone 2

Sega's Pics (from best of Sega compilation)
Ashura/ Rambo First Blood Part 2/Secret Commando
    Phantasy Star

There's more, but music's not the first thing that comes to my mind when thinking about games.

Anything by Konami and Sunsoft for the NES.

I can't help you with the SMS, though I was kinda partial to the sound of Master of Darkness.

I've got three words for you... Konami, Konami, Konami. Their NES games are brilliantly written and have the most powerful bass you'll ever hear from an 8-bit system. Start at Gyruss and work your way up to more modern games like Contra and Castlevania.

Capcom's got good music, too, but it's more cartoony and lighthearted than Konami's. Give Mega Man 1, Section Z, and Bionic Commando a spin... they all sound great. River City Ransom by Technos is still pretty memorable, too.

Here's another SMS game with catchy music: Dynamite Dux. The game's pretty fun too.

I listen to Video game music all the time. 99% of the time, its what I'm playing on Winamp. Especially Nes music. This list will probably be fairly long, but here are the game music I like.

    For Nes:

    Zanac
    Gun Nac
    Guardian Legend
    Kirby's Adventure
    Startropics 1 & 2
    Super Mario 1-3
    Zelda 1 & 2
    Metroid
    Kid Icarus
Tetris (Tengen and Nintendo, both have decent music.)
    Sword Master
    Ninja Gaiden 1 & 2
    River City Ransom
Super Dodgeball (look for Nekketsu Koukou Dodgeball Bu - Soccer Hen)
    Over Horizon
    Fantastic Adventures of Dizzy
    Bignose the Caveman
    Shatterhand
Shadow of the Ninja (Look for Kage, no it's not Legend of Kage)
    Legacy of the Wizard
    Faxanadu
    Final Fantasy 1-3
    Dragon Warrior 1-4
    Destiny of an Emperor 1 & 2
    Magic of Scheherazade
    Flying Warriors
    GI Joe Real American Hero
Doki Doki Yuuenchi (Not Doki Doki Panic. Completely different game.)
    Little Samson
    Solstice
    Hero Quest
    Magician
Adventure Island 2-4 (You can get these here: http://www.dragoneyestudios.net/index.php?page=music)

It would take forever to list them all, so I pretty much recommend you try all nsfs they have of Capcom, Sunsoft, and Konami games as those companies made some of the best Nes tunes. Especially Konami. Can't think of any Nes game they made with bad music. Well I guess Road Fighter could count, since all the tunes in that are only about 5 seconds long. :P

    For SMS:

    After Burner
    Black Belt
    Golden Axe Warrior
    Wonder Boy series
    Miracle Warriors
    Phantasy Star
    Golvellius Valley of Doom
    Power Strike 1 and 2
    R Type
    Penguin Land
    Dynamite Dux
    Alex Kidd in Miracle World
    Alex Kidd in Shinobi World
    Shinobi
    Shadow Dancer
    Pit Pot
    Fantasy Zone 1 and 2
    Gain Ground
Fantastic Dizzy (Has completely different music from the Nes version. Yolk Folk village theme is stuck in my head. :P )
    Vampire Master of Darkness
    Outrun 1 & 3D
    Space Harrier 1 & 3D
    Zillion 1 & 2
    Rastan
    Captain Silver
    Ys

    Game Gear:

    Aleste 1 & 2
    Shinobi 1 & 2
    Tail's Adventures
    Pengo

Only trouble with SMS and Game Gear, is there aren't a lot of VGMs around. Most of the games I mentioned above I don't think even have VGMs yet. But if they are ever available they get my recommendation. :P

    WOW.

I was just listening to a couple Sega Master System tunes. I'm impressed. They almost sound like 16-bit tunes!
