    Default Ultra 64 proto.

I have always wondered if there are Ultra 64 (Nintendo 64 with a different logo and joystick on the controller) out there. That's how the N64 was supposed to be released in the States and in Europe (i remember, in France, there were a lot of ads for the Ultra 64 nearly two years before the N64 was released).

I think it's a shame that they didn't release it like that as i think it looked better than what we got in the end.

So, do you think there are Ultra 64s somewhere ?

There might be, but not commercially released. Maybe like one in the headquarters of Nintendo and they're assorted subsidaries (like NoA, NoE, etc.)

I remember seeing a picture of an Ultra64 in a magazines of Disney Adventures (I was like in 3rd grade at the time...). It had an Aliens (like the movie) cart in it, and the little plastic thing on the front said "Aliens" as well.

I'd imagine that they only thing in existence, if at all, is a non-functional mock-up, similar to the Sega Neptune mock-up you aw and will see at the CGE museum. A big hunk of plastic - pretty, but no workie.

Not that anything like that would ever see the light of our day.

I don't know because in the months (years) leading to the release of the N64, Nintendo showcased prototypes in conventions (like the Tokyo Game Show or the E3). Around 1995, maybe Nintendo had a "working" Ultra 64.

I think I do at least remember seeing development units (hardware) that had some kind of Ultra 64 label on them....I'm pretty sure, anyway.

Carts, I'm not sure about though...

dude, you could always put the insides of a n64 into an ultra. granted, there is a chance of messing up that plastic, but it would still be cool to showcase. maybe a working ultra and a rar proto, that would rock!

I know it wasn't the worst console in the world, But man i waited and i waited through all the delays, it felt like i waited forever, setback after setback!.. and in the end, it wasn't really worth it, some great titles but i'm not a huge fan
