    Default Ebay Search Methods…

    Hello,

I am new at ebaying for retro games and I’m wondering how you pros do it ???

Currently I have set up a web page with 2 Iframes (one with specific links and one that the links open up in)

My links are VERY specific to filter out all the crap out there:

e.g. snes complete -pacman -caesars -tetris -instinct -vegas -wars -invaders -rf -ac -adaptor -zero -controllers -controller -pc -gamecube -xbox -dreamcast -psx -ps2 -playstation -gba -gameboy -n64

This is my SNES complete link. Notice how it filters out the numerous common titles, rf switches, 72 pin connectors…. Ect….

So I ask, is this a good method ??? Are there any programs out there that help in finding specific ebay things ??? for example, it would be amazing if there was a program that you can set to email you the instant a, for example, NES world camp cart appears as a buy it now for >$100

p.s. I am new in these forums so if I am doing anything wrong please tell me!

    Thanks

    Mr.Faxanadu

To get real specific (such as looking for a specific game) just type in the name of the game. For instance, how many versions of Invasion of the Mutant Penguins can there be? If it is a game available on many platforms, you can add the name of the platform such as "SNES Metroid"...

It's not really a program but you can use the following perl module to write your own program to do it.

    http://search.cpan.org/~mthurn/WWW-S...Search/Ebay.pm

You can load that perl module into Linux (you can do it Windows to, you'll just have to install Perl first. Linux has it built it) and then write a program that uses that module to search eBay. Then you can do whatever you want with the results, email, store in a file, etc. I did it, and I knew absolutely nothing about Perl. If you search the Web, you can find some code to do it, you'll just have to modify with your specific info.

Here's a hint: There are more powerful search methods than you may know about. For instance, I would change this query to the following:

    (snes, sup* ni*ndo) (comple*,mib,cib,nib,lot) -(pac*,cae*,tetr*,instinct,vegas,wars,invad*,rf,ac, adap*,zero,control*,pc,gamecu*,xbox,dreamca*,psx,p s2,playst*,gba,gameb*,n64)

It's smaller and guaranteed to find a lot more stuff since it'll wildcard find all of the nitendo, ninetendo, ninteno mispellings.

    Old method: 222 hits
    New method: 428 hits

Damn. Here I am giving away all the juicy secrets.

ebay will mail you when specific items pop up.

Sign in and go to your favorite searches. One of the options will email you daily for up to one year if said search returns a result.
