Has anyone else snagged a copy of this new $20.00 title yet? I picked it up for my Xbox yesterday (along with THUG) and have already spent quite a bit more time with it.
My feelings are mixed. The presentation is a lot like NFL 2K5, but some of the nifty little features are missing. For instance, there is no crib and the unlockables just sort of show up. I would have them rather copied the entire crib mode over and just changed the bobble heads (which you can still get and play with, so this couldn't have been very hard to do.) That would've been nicer than no Crib at all.
The gameplay seems to be missing a little something. I played the living daylights out of my copy of NBA2K1 for the Dreamcast -- an 82 game season, 10 minute quarters and the entire playoffs, so I might be a little too used to that game. That having been said, NBA 2K1 seemed to have better control overall than 2K5 does. I found myself often times running into other players and making ugly passes that shouldn't have happened because of it.
I do adore the free throw shooting system however, which is an upgrade from the older ones. I do wonder how this is done of the PS2 though.
I miss the ESPN top 25 moments like what NFL 2K5 had. I would have loved to have played through some of those games. I think that I have beaten about 15 of the ESPN ones so far.
All of that having been said, the 24/7 mode is awesome. For some reason, all Sega Sports games make their practices as fun or more than the actual games. Virtual Tennis had bowling, and NBA 2K5 has 24/7. Basically, you create a character and then work with him to gain skills, make contacts, beat players in one-on-one and two-on-two games and more that I'm sure I haven't found yet. It is totally addictive, and I've already spent probably an hour playing as my character. I realize that the next week or two of my time is going to be devoted to this mode, and I'm pretty happy about that
Hopefully, as I get more into that mode I'll start liking the actual gameplay more. I need to take another team from Milwaukee to the Finals, as I know the real team won't be doing it in the near term
Has anyone else got it yet? If so, what do you think?
Anyone else get NHL 2K5 by the way? I'm tempted, but I've never really played a hockey game nor watched the sport, but NFL 2K5 makes me want to snag all the ESPN games...
