If you like Japanese anime, TV, J-pop and other similar music, then go for. Otherwise don't bother. Then again, modding your Cube makes importing Japanese titles a lot easier in the long run...

Not to hijack the thread but...

Have any companies made any interesting third-party drums yet? Right now we've got 4 people who love the game and one set, I was wondering what kind of options there were outside of the standard officials. I've seen a black pellican set image, but the site has no info about it. I'd really like to see what hong kong has to offer, but it may be a bit early for that just yet.

Can't for the Japanese versions of Donkey Konga.

When you have a new memory card, it is formatted for the region of the Cube you are running it on. Now most games don't bother to actually check for this region setting when accessing the memory card. However both Donkey Konga (and its sequel) and Mr Driller DrillLand in their Japanese guises do (for whatever reason Namco chose). This is why you can't save properly when using anything apart from a proper Japanese formatted card.

Yes, but the region is set by the hardware. Thus... you need to mod.

    If I understand correctly myself.

You could still play the game without saving... what would you really miss out on?

Being able to play any of the songs on the highest difficulty and any of the mini games (as you have to buy them all).

Dumb question...what if someone initially formatted the card on a Japanese machine?

Could I then save on an unmodded US cube?

I don't know if anyone's actually tried that. I know the possibility has been raised before, but can't recall anyone going off to see it it worked.

The Pelican GC bongos have been spotted at Best Buy already, but they look pretty much identical to the Nintendo version, just without the groovy DK logo.
Selling collection, Atari through XBox. Send a PM with whatever games you're looking for.

so that means you can't just buy a mem card and then not put any saves on it, and then start up dk, and have it save it?

i know when i saved games on bleemcast, i had to do that in order to save, because i thought that most games had the ability to format a card accordingly. if older technology like a ps1 game can do it, why can't a gc game do it.

The game formats the card to the region of the HARDWARE you are running the game on, not the region of the game itself. That's why you can't get the Japanese versions of DK to do the formatting for you.
