Default Where can I buy Bemani controllers and Mod Chips?

If you check this thread, you'll see that I have now become hopelessly addicted to DrumMania and Para Para Paradise. I am, of course, now interested in picking up a home version of each. There are just a few things holding me back. I don't have a modded system, and, while the games are easy to find to import, the controllers are not. So, I am asking for help. If anyone can provide me information in any of the following four areas, it would be much appreciated.

1.) Does anyone know a reputable online shop that sells PS2 mod chips?

2.) Has anyone successfully done a PS2 modification?

3.) Does anyone know a reputable online shop that sells DrumMania or Para Para controllers??

4.) Has anyone played the home version of Para Para? I hear that if you are too tall the beams won't register, and, being 6'4", I'd like to know if that's true before purchasing.

By the way, I want it understood that my interest in a PS2 modchip is STRICTLY for importing. I have no interest in piracy whatsoever, and being that I don't own a DVD burner, I should think it would be rather difficult for me anyway.

I have a V7 PS2 with a X0-2 no swap MOD chip. It was one of the hardest solder jobs I've ever had to do. It also takes a steady hand to actually take the ps2 apart. There are 4 extremely fine ribbon cables that go to the DVD drive, one for the controller ports, and one for the reset/open button.. That doesn't inclune all the clips and odd sized screws. THEN you got to get it back together! I was very glad when it worked the first time I fired it up.

I got a no swap X0-2 mod chip because:

    1) It was under $50
    2) I don't need a Game Shark to play games
3)Like my PS1, I put a game in, it works.
4)the X0-2 was the only chip at the time that didn't screw up DVD playback.

If you get a no solder ps2 chip you will have to deal with:

    1) Must purchase a game shark and you can never use it to cheat in games because you will be typing in codes to hack the system.
2)finding the right original game to swap
    3)added wear and tear
4)it will c0st you more to get it working then a no swap.

If you suck at soldering I would pay someone the $60 to install it.

The X0-2 chip lets me do the following:

    Direct boot of:
    ps2 cd-rom originals and imports
    ps2 dvd originals and imports
ps2 duel layer dvd originals (others cant)
    ps1 originals
    ps1 imports
all DVD movies without skipping or locking (this was a big problem a year ago)

    ps2 cd-r backups
    ps2 dvd-rw dvd+r backups
    ps1 cd-rw backups
    All EA games without patches
can use a Game Shark to actually cheat!

I want one....but I am far from comfortable with my soldering ability. I got my PSX mod-chip in without too much difficulty and also installed a region switch in my Saturn with no problem.....but neither of them were valued at $150 at the time...have you performed either of these procedures? I'm assuming this one was harder than both of those (due to the DVD drive)...any ideas where I could pick one up? I've actually had significant difficulty finding them for sale.

And, yes, folks, I am indeed still looking for a place to purchase DrumMania and ParaPara controllers away from EBay. Any help would be much appreciated.

Raedon, does the chip turn your PS2 into a region-free DVD player? Am I reading that right? If so, I'd love one too, just for that capability, but I don't even want to attempt soldering so I guess I'm SOL. :P

I think it depends on your TV for Regions, and NTSC and PAL. im no expert.
Somebody once told me to get a life.

I told them I sold it for money to buy video games.

Thanks, QOF. This helps a lot.

@GENESISNES: If you have a region-free dvd player, the type of tv you own is not important as to whether or not the DVDs will play.

The saturn mod's are simple.. The PSOne mod i did took an hour and only had 6 wires.. doing a ps2 mod is like two things.. It's like taking apart a notebook computer and it's like installing 10 PSOne mod chips.

It does not change the regions or the MV protection of DVD's. Although the newest rumored V5-V7 PS2 chips do. I also hear that there are ps2 chips coming out for the V7 that only have 11 wires.

If you want a Region free MV free DVD player just go buy that 49.99 Apex DVD player from wallymart or the Daewoo 5800 from Sams club as they can be made region free with the remote or a firmware update.

Well, I assessed my funds, and it looks like I won't be buying anything until after christmas at the very least, but I still want to scout.

I found this chip several different places. Is this the kind you have, Raedon? It says it requires 23 wires to be soldered. You wouldn't happen to have copy of the instructions handy that I could see, so that I could decide whether I was up to the task, would you? (I don't know if they gave you paper instructions or virtual....you don't have to go through the trouble of scanning if you only have hard copies). Also, can you, by any chance, reccomend somewhere from which to purchase a chip? It's not that I can't find stores that sell them, but I'm somewhat leery about it....don't want to chance getting burned if I can avoid it. Thanks!

EDIT: Nevermind on the instructions, found a copy online...not sure whether I'll be able to handle it....might take the old PS2 apart and give it a look...I'd still like to know if that's the chip you have, however, since you've been happy with it, and if you can reccomend anywhere to buy it.

About $200 for DrumMania and the controller at toysnjoys......*sigh* I need more money.....well, looks like I'll have to keep my eye on ebay....there's actually a very nice deal on it right now, but I have no funds until after christmas....ah well.

the Magic 2 was replaced with the Magic 3 recently. The only differences that I know of is the magic 3 is the first no swap to work with all PS2 models from v1 to v7

I've bought mod chips here before, fast turnaround. lhttp://www.modchip-sbox.com/ps2-magic-3.shtmly

you can get an old Apple v7 chip for $39.99 it's 23 wire also.

Lan-Kwei still carries the X0-2 chip (along with many others, but you won't see em on their web pages) but it has 2 evil solder points. [/img]
