Why no portables? or are you just focusing on consoles?

Would Neo Geo CDZ count or no?

Goldstar 3DO to be added as well

Sega Mega Jet (Portable Sega MegaDrive)

    Sega CDX

    JVC X-Eye

Sega Nomad <-- not just a portable, but a full blown Genesis as well

    And the Texas Instructment 99/TI-99

    also, MSX and Sharp X68000

Turbo Express <--- portable NEC that played HuCards as well
These cartridges are dirty as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!

Hmm, good point on the portables...I didnt make the list, but I would think they count. They were probably talking about non-portable units I guess.

its a list, a pretty good one but why fence it in? so that list counts the tommy tutor but not the vic-20 or the TI99? its really hard to draw the line between computer and game system, esp. when you're talking about stuff in the UK and Australia.

They're all computers rather than consoles, and if you're counting computers then there's a whole lot more besides that. Also, all the others you mention are variants of already listed systems rather than a different platform.

Not too sure what you mean there - as far as I can tell there's almost always a pretty clear divide between computers & consoles. What's on the borderline?

Well I would have to say that the Commodore 64 and the Atari XE computers are both on the borderline, as thier parent companies both made console only versions as well as the more full-fledged computer versions.

Some would also say the Odyssey 2 is a borderline, because of its built-in keyboard [although the extreme dearth of any computer software for it makes the argument admittedly tenuous]

Basically the argument can be made for any computer that hooks up to a TV and uses carts for games to be a game system. I know thats exactly how I use my Commodore 64.

Sure, they can be used as games systems, but it's pretty evident (to me, anyway) that they are definitely computers as opposed to consoles. There's a bunch of other similar systems that were also released in consolised form or vice-versa - aswell - the Amiga 1200/CD32, Amstrad CPC464/GX4000, Intellivision/Adam, Sega SG1000/SC3000 etc.

At the end of the day, it's always down to a matter of personal perception - I believe the original list in this thread is from candude's list of consoles, which was compiled according to a very rigid definition of what does & doesn't classify.

If so then I take issue withthe Virtual Boy being on there.. It is technically a portable...

    PC-FX?

Amiga CD32, Atari XE GS, Commdore 64 GS?

Aren't those all computers as well?

I'll list the variants, because he put the add-ons for the Sega Genesis as well, so why not?

I say incomplete as woe. The viewmaster intertactive vision is there, so why no Action Max, the 1292 systems are there, so why to Telstar Arcade, and Odyssey? Computer wise, why no Aquarius, Spectravideo, Commodore Plus/4, TRS 80, Dragon 32, PC Jr? I'll think of more and then post them.

Those are all most certainly consoles. The PC-FX NEVER was a computer in any way, shape, or form, no more than the PC-Engine was.

BTW this list is a pile of garbage. Super A'Can, anybody? Oh yeah, maybe it's because we're too good to list those cheap Taiwanese systems, even though it's a completely original system with legally produced/licensed titles x_x

That's just in addition to everything VintageGameCrazy wrote.

What the hell is the N64 DD doing on that list if we aren't counting variations on the same theme? It has no business being on there whatsoever.

    Bullshit @ that.

or the Famicom Disk Drive/Famicom Twin for that matter now that you mention it

Thanks for clearing up about the PC-FX, I've only seen one, so I wasn't too sure

FDS should count if N64 DD does, but according to the rules it seems neither should as they're just accessories.

Famicom Twin is just a variation...nothing special (in terms of the list that is). Should be lumped in there with FC/FDS.

At the end of the day, no-one is going to be able to come up with a definitive list that everyone will agree on - there's just too many exceptions to any rule you can think of, and oddball systems that don't really fir in anywhere.

Key is to be INclusive rather than EXclusive, I'd say. Keeps some of the resentment down :)

Take it up with candude then, not me (assuming that this is based on his list?).

Why would I be angry at you about it? I'm just saying what I think is a reasonable goal for making lists.

This list most certainly is NOT Can Dude's, seeing how the Super A'Can isn't on there. Dead giveaway.

    " Intellivision/Adam"

They're not related in any way. If you mean Colecovision and Adam, a Colecovision is a game system, and a ADAM is a computer. The Colecovision can be made into a game system with the ADAM attachment however.
