At last, back in C=64 heaven!

Finally picked up a replacement unit for the one that died in the 80s. Now I'm going about the business of reviewing every game on like 200 floppies (double-sided of course). It's such a trip booting up all the games I forgot even existed. It's a new suprise with every LOAD"$",8! My only let down is that I seem to be missing some of my favs like Space Taxi, Ghostbusters, etc. Anyone here have the cable to hook the floppy drive up to the PC? Sounds like a good purchase to me. Just thought I'd share my excitement.

Man I couldn't live without my C128 and 1571 drives.. Get yourself the parallel to commodore drive adapter and Star Commander.. You can make the cable but the guys who do star commander sold me the cable for $6 no fuss. I got the multimedia cable as I was told a Windows nt/2000/xp port of Star Commander was in the future and it would use that cable but that was a year ago so I guess not. Doesn't matter it works with the DOS programs so all is good.

If your NTSC you will find that 99% of the games at places like c64.com and ARNOLD ftp are PAL.. sucks.. there are no web sites that cater to NTSC and NTSC fixed c64 images.

Modify your 1571 so all disks are unprotected.. this saves a lot of hastle with DS/DD disks that only had the write protect tab on the one side (Commodore disks had two tabs.)

Real men uses hole punchers to ,ake a notch in the disk. Of course I have the old disk notcher that makes a neat square notch in exactly the right spot. IIRC it used to be a must have device when 5.25" disk drive for PC, Apple II, and Commodore were only single sided but disk could be used both sided. And yes I'm still using it even today.

First off the Lemon64 hasn't had game downloads for almost a year. Kim Lemon got a nasty letter and took em down (they were PAL anyway.)
Second, using a c64 emulator isn't close to the same thing as using the real thing.. the color, the sound.. they don't match. the most swaping I've ever had to do was 4 disks double sided.. Pool of Radiance.. Most of my disks are set up like multi-carts.. 5-10 games on a disk

NTSC C64 sites do exist... plus ones that have PAL/NTSC fixed games on them... I'll have to inquire on URLs as I can't remember off hand...

There used to be one site that catered to NTSC c64 but it is now dead.

There IS a site devoted too NTSC/fixed c64 games but for the last year you click on a game you get a Tripod error page. I've emailed the webmaster about it and never got a response. A game i've wanted forever NTSC fixed is on that page - Bubble Dizzy; yet i'm denied. :-(

Well, the CD set isn't anything you couldn't just download online alreay and save yourself $24.00. They also charge $12.50 for the cable. :/ I have an XM1541 cable and it works great! Anyway.. you can just get the cable here. This site actually supports the author of Star Commander. http://sta.c64.org/x1541shop.html The XM and XE are both $8.20 here. If your using Windows NT/2000/xp you will need either 1)a DOS or WIN98 boot disk or 2)a dedicated DOS/win95/98 system to use Star Commander. I use an old old Pentium 133 and 2 gig HD to use Star Commander (and play old DOS games :P)

I just purchased this CD today: http://www.mergetel.com/~blitz/C64/c64cd.html along with the C64 to PC cable.

There are at least 400 NTSC files on it and according to the guy that runs the site above, more than 90% of PAL files will work anyway. I will confirm this when I get the CD.

I also picked up a C=64C model and 1541 II drive today at Salvation Army. When it rains it pours.
