    Default Joystick for mame

I have recently become addicted to mame and am playing games with my gravis gamepad but am going to buy a joystick. I am considering either the 2player x-arcade stick or the Hotrod stick. I know both are quality joysticks but am wondering if anyone here has had good or bad experiences and/or opinions about either one. Also if anyone knows of other options besides those two and would share that would be great!!! I would love to build my own but sadly I have no tools.

    Thanks in advance

    heh your in luck mate!

Do some reseach on an Ipac...

As i have a spare arcade stick and buttons from the cabinet i have recently been working on!

All youll need is an IPAC to hook them up to your pc!

Both are excellent controllers, which one you wind up going with boils down to two things:

    1) Do you want to use it for anything else? If so, you want the X-Arcade, it has adapters for the PS2, Dreamcast, etc.

    2) Personal preference. The X-Arcade and HotRod have a slightly different feel. Try them both and go with the one you prefer.

i have been to arcadecontrols alot but and I would love to put something together myself however that is not and option, I am just gonna fork out the money get get something already put together. So far the x-arcade looks the best as I can hook it up to my ps2, dreamcast etc... but on the other hand, the hotrod is $50 cheaper

I wasn't personally thrilled with the x-arcade I got, but that's because it didn't use the leaf-style switches known for their "clicky". I'm used to the AES old style and NGPC joysticks where I 'hear' where I'm going with the stick. No clue if hotrod uses this style as well.

Other than that, the X-Arcade is pretty nice. Solid controls, the the stick did work properly, just not my style of switch is all

AdamG: Hm, my X-Arcade does click when moving the stick - but maybe there's different kinds of clicks ^^

I really like the controller, but besides the high asking price, I found all the adaptors you'll need aren't exactly on the cheap side either, but maybe they're a little cheaper in the US. Anyway, you should keep that in mind when buying the controller.
