Default The demise of Coleco is almost upon us!

Can you read the writing on the wall?

I have a prediction that I feel the need to share because I'm rather smart.

The ColecoVision is nearing its end. This so-called "third wave" game console simply doesn't provide the kind of graphics today's gamers are looking for.

On the one hand, it's trying to cover the older, popular games by giving gamers access to the Atari 2600 library (using expansion module #1), and on the other hand, it's trying to be "cutting edge" with its fancy high resolution sprites, but these don't quite measure up to the things you see on Xbox or PS2. So in the end, it does neither well.

What they should have done was create a DVD-based system with HDTV compatibility, trilinear mip-mapping, and dual analog controllers with rumble features. Not this clunky box of a console.

And I fear that the new PlayStation and Xbox will finish them off for good too! Especially seeing as how the gaming theatre is getting a little crowded now...

I mean take a look at these graphics. Even the naked eye can pick out the superior quality of PS2 and Xbox games:

Now, just try telling me I'm wrong and I'll just pretend I never saw your post.

Are you sure? I think Coleco is holding its own against the PS2 and XBOX. Heck.. it might even compare to PS3 and XBN.

I agree. The ColecoVision is on its way out...

...however, the Intellivision certainly has enough power to compete against these so-called "next gen" consoles!

Pshhhh, complete hogwash. Do you really think the next round of console could even try and compete with the ColecoVision? Madness.

Don't overlook the ease of use, simple controls the CV offers over the Xbox and PS2. CV must have a hell of an engine, virtually no load times over that of the PS2 and Xbox, don't have any down time between levels.

Being a ColecoVision fanboy I just cannot see where you are coming from.
As for the comment on HDTV compatibility, wait until the Super Game Module is released this fall.

Joe, I hate to break ranks with you, but you've got this one dead wrong. Coleco's success with the head-to-head sports handhelds proves that they have the kind of market share it takes to last, even against Mattel's Electronic Football. Colecovision will make it, just wait and see. And before long, there'll even be an expansion module that'll turn it into a full-powered computer system. Will PS2 and Xbox have daisy-wheel printers and cassette drives anytime soon? I DON'T THINK SO.

And one other thing - with all these concerns about video games getting too violent...Coleco is a family company, aiming their games at a family market. Do you think we're ever going to see a Colecovision cartridge with an "M" rating symbol on it, ever? I DON'T THINK SO.

You forgot about online, man. Coleco missed the boat on the one. That's the future of gaming right there. Coleco's audacity in releasing a console without out-of-the-box abilities to support the mammoth MMORPG potential of RPG's like BC's Quest For Tires or team competitions in Smurf: Rescue In Gargamel's Castle just baffles me to this day

Granted, the CV's got that big ol' expansion port on the front. But how dumb do they think we are? Like we're going to wait around for Expansion Module #4 - Ethernet Adapter? Didn't they promise that for the first spring after launch? By the time that comes out I'll be onto my PS3, thank you very much.

....downs a cup of Joe's happy juice and proclaims that Colecovision will reign King Over PS3 and XBOX 2.
If they made a movie out of your top five worst sins, what would it be rated?

actually there was a modem released for the adam computer expansion.
i believe it is 1400 baud... might take a little while to get doom 3 to multi with that though.

Yeah, Coleco is going down. They're SO arrogant, they deserve it. I mean, WTF? Did they think they could go from producing leather goods to VIDEO GAMES? Coleco must want to take over the world. Evil corporate bastards.

While some may predict the Colecovision's demise, there is one item that keeps it ahead of the pack.
