Default Propeller Arena GD-R on eBay

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...tem=8189613782

    Real? Fake? Speculate away..

(Bear in mind that blank GD-R's have been selling for as little as $7 recently)

Looks real (ie, looks like my Ooga Booga GDR), but it could be photoshopped.

He's a powerseller, hopefully he checks these sorts of things.

So what's the deal? It it a un-finished game that will only play on a delv kit? So if I put it in my normal Dreamcast it wouldn't play at all? I guess I don't know enough about these things, and I don't think I am ready to start any new collections. Price looks reasonable at this point however.
Condoleezza Rice is nice, but I prefer A Roni!

Yeah, it won't play in your normal Dreamcast. I'm pretty sure that you need a Devkit and a System Disk 2 (GD-R). Or you might be able to use the System Disk + an unfinished GDR in your normal Dreamcast.

Either way, this is probably more collectible than playable.

I downloaded an iso of Propeller Arena and that plays just fine, in fact the game looks finished, it's only missing a few logo's in the credits.

Whether or not this GD-ROM will play is a different matter.

    But here's what i'm wondering:

Would it be possible to just download the Propeller Arena image and burn it on a blank GD-R? Maybe it sounds a little paranoid, but wouldn't this be possible for someone with a GD-R burner (i remember once seeing a system on ebay and i believe it was equipped with a gd-r burner, i think it was called a Katana).

Then again, maybe blank GD-R discs are worth more than a DC dev game.

So far for my paranoid rant

EDIT: i forgot the topicstarter said a blanc GD-R disc is selling for about 7$ these days, i wonder how you could check the authenticity of a disc like this then, you'd have to go digging in the data i suppose and really know what you're doing.

Strange, i remember blank GD-R's selling for much more

Katana was the dev name for dreamcast, BTW.

    Looks fake to me.

Good link to dchistory. I wonder if I'll ever know for sure if my Ooga Booga GDR is real or not. I got it in a lot buy from a guy who said the got it when he was a journalist doing previews. <shrugs>

A blank GDRom disc may only cost $7 but as said already, you'll need a GDRom burned to do anything with it. Yeah I know that a few of them have been sold on eBay in the past but I don't believe that they went cheap.

um, why would you pay 7 bucks for a blank GDR? if you wanna "back up" DC games, there are other cheaper ways to do it. or maybe i'm completely missing the point.

As a collector's peice. There were selling for upwards of £25 (~$47) when they first started to surface a year or two back, so $7 is a relative bargain.

    Hello,

I'm one of the previous buyers of the GDRs from www.insertgame.co.uk. Just looking at the discs I noticed that they have only recorded the track readable by PC and audio CD Player and not the track with the game data readable by Dreamcast so they are totally defective or fake. Of the 4 discs I received none of them works (tried with System Disc 2, swap trick to verify them totally). Another buyer with a Rez disc can't get it to work either.

As you can understand I have sent an e-mail asking for a refund of the payment and to give back these ""prototypes"". I'm very disappointed because long time ago I bought some legit GDRs from them with no problems.

If it is real the game is most likely complete, as the completed game was going to be released until sep 11th happened. Its the same with Half-Like for the DC, there are real copies out there not just burned isos.

The one on Ebay right now is surely another fake GD-R like the discs that I have received, with only the track readable by PC and audio CD player recorded. That's even worse than a common CD-R of Propeller Arena, at least the CD-R would have the game. I have sent an e-mail yesterday to the seller and it does not answer.

I wonder why he won't answer , your better off just having a copied version of that game at least you can get some enjoyment out of it.

I remember when this game first got leaked out, there was only one copy that was ever up for grabs, and it was borrowed for about $8,000, and eventually returned to the original owner, if anyone is familiar with DCF then I'm sure they know what I'm talking about. I have a bootable working copy sitting in my desk right now, the only reason why I downloaded it was because the game was never released. :/

Yeah the only copies I have are unreleased games, like Half-Life (DC) and Thrill Kill (PS1).
