    Default Damn Dirty Carts

I just got a new 72-pin connector for my NES and been cleaning my present and new carts I got today up the wazoo, and I'ms till getting the grey screen and blinking light!!

Is there anything else I can do to solve this cause I wanna try out the game I got for my friend for Christmas and my other new cart.

Are you taking the games apart to clean, using a white eraser? I've had NES carts where a simple Q-tip and alcohol were not sufficient.

Some carts contacts must be nearly wore out, because I have a touchy Tetris, that was very dirty, but is utterly spotless now, and it still blinks occasionally.

If you got blink, it's gotta be the carts. Did you do the pin yourself?

I'm using a NES cleaning kit i'm borrowing from a friend right now. And yes, did the pin connector myself with a friend (worked before too).

If rubbing alcohol and eraser doesn't work, you could try this last resort method: a 400 paper to sand the contact.

Also if your game title shows cleanly on the screen but flashes, you could permantly disable flashy problem by taking apart the NES, looking on the bottom of the mainboard, look for a small chip closest to RF modulator labeled CIC. Get a small wire cutter and snip pin 4 off the chip. That will prevent any more flashy screen but it may cause problem with a few unlicensed games.

Top loading NES doesn't have the chip and the above mod won't apply.

what I do to most of the nes games I get is sand the contact on the game with a cardboard nail file then clean with alcahol .They usually work perfect after that.

I've gone to town on a few of my dirtier carts with a metal wire brush. I really had to scrape hard to get the gunk off. Those boards are really durable, they can take it.

I usually open the game and use a white eraser, but for games that can't be easily opened (tengen), and don't work after a good q-tip/alchohol scrubbing, I use some WD-40. I spray the WD-40 on a q-tip and clean the contacts again (this usually gets some more dirt off), then I clean again with alchohol to get rid of all the WD-40.

I have also used windex on the q-tip (which is basically alcohol).
It works great. And I have to resort to scraping th corrosion off some of the really bad games.
