Do all Atari 5200 carts have numbers carved/engraved into the labels and do they have a meaning?! Does the same game (say Qix for example) have the same number 163 carved in all of it's labels?!

I had always assumed that they were week/year codes as in 16th week of '83. I looked at my Qix and I believe it was 243. However my theory is pretty well shot since after you mentioning it I looked at all my carts and they all work that way except my cart of Soccer has 532 on it
It's possible to have a 53rd week though (or at least a couple of days of one) since 52 weeks = 364 days. Perhaps your Soccer was made on the last day of 1982?
On new year's eve? Damn, that worker was pissed.

The moral is, don't **** with Uncle Tim when he's been drinking!
I have the same discussion over at AA and nobody there knows what the #'s are.. someone suspects aliens. I have 163, but one of the guys at AA has 263R. Now that baffles me even more that they have letters too.
Yeah make that two votes for the alien conspiracy.
I never noticed the numbers before and have no idea what it means. My Qix has 25 3 R.
If they are date codes (which is very probable), the letters could indicate specific manufacturing plants.
