Is this legal? I mean, it is a blatant rip-off of Sega's Chu Chu Rocket. How can they call this a homebrew? As far as I can tell, nothing was 'brewed.' It seems more like a 'homeport.'

    EDIT: typos fixed. :P

This was a 04 CGE release and is a great game...yeah i guess you can say ripoff, but we like to say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Is it any good? I've been looking at getting this, but I'm not sure how the control would be without analog. Has anybody here played this? I do love my Chu Chu and wouldn't mind a Sega CD version. Plus supporting homebrew is my charity of choice.

Well, I am pulling this one back from the dead because I am interested in opinions on this game as well. I have four of the Good Deal Games releases coming to me for review and this game is among them. I personally can't wait to get my hands on it as it looks like it's going to be a pretty cool little romp. Plus, as stated before, it would be nice to get these guys some support as Homebrew is the bomb!

The irony is the CD includes copy protection against being read by a CD-ROM drive.

As others have said, I would take a blatant rip off of a game on a system that never had a version of a game any time.

What else would it be on? Its a Sega CD game. *well technically its a pressed CD, so kinda sorta a CD-R*
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

If a CD-ROM drive can't read it, then how can the Sega CD do so?

Unless it's hiding data in the pregap area, like a CD I messed with the other day.

I'm not understanding what the big deal is if they copy protevt their releases? Keeps them from ending up on a torrent tracker or file site.

I have no problem with them using copy protection. I'm asking how is it that it can't be read on a CD-ROM drive, but a Sega CD can.

I was commenting on how the irony of the CD Protection was supposed to be ironic, that's all man.

It's ironic because the game is a blatant ripoff of Chu Chu Rocket. They make no effort to hide the fact that the design and core gameplay concepts and even the logo art and color schemes are lifted from Chu Chu Rocket.

But they don't want anyone to possibly make copies of it, because that would be WRONG.

I'm just going by the information on the game's website. It says it won't work on a PC CD-ROM because of copy protection.

Héhé, the game "IS" ... chuchu rocket.
It wasn't meant to be a ripoff but more an anachronic release.

There are millions of true ripoff around (ie : game concept refurbished under a totally different skin), but I dont think its really the case here, obviously.

I dont know if much people bought this game, nor played it, I suspect less than I have fingers on my hands. But well, its supposed to be as close as possible as what Sega could have done if they wanted/accepted to.
It wasn't exactly meant to be sold. It's CDR (afaik) and I'm not entirely sure but the copy protection is probably indeed ironic.

It would be interesting to have feedback from people who have a copy btw.

    Take care

Were you involved in the sale of the game in any way Fonz? Sounds like you weren't

Nope, I was not. Also, a beta of the game was sold at an event in USA by "older games" or something like that because they didn't bother waiting for the final release (the megacd audio part had a bug that took 1 year to fix).

I got some copies free to offer to some friends, as well as a bunch of megadrive games. I also got all the shipping fees (shipping the final disc to USA) refunded.

Anyway, what's done is done, I have no regret (except, again, the fact it wasn't official release supported by sonic team, geeez) ^^.

I will be reviewing the game of Classic Video Gamer Magazine issue #3. Should be interesting to see how close it is to Chu Chu Rocket and how different it is also. Either way, I am looking forward to playing it and seeing what was done.

Gee, I thought it was on a HD-DVD.

What I was asking if it was on a shitty brand CD-R with a paper label (like the Burning Fists one I bought) or an actual factory pressed disk.

How would you consider a factory pressed disk kind of like a CD-R?

They make Pro-pressed cd-rs, i see them all time with underground music acts. I'm guessing he would go this route, at least, i hope a pro pressed cd-r is the minimum they would do.
