Dance Dance Toejam and Earl!
I voted 1st party. I miss their consoles.
I only need 2 more NES games (US)!
I vote "Neither", since they are still developing good, solid games. Billy Hatcher was a move most developers probably wouldn't have made. The Sonic Team is doing decent work, and hopefully will be making a solid smash hit with Sonic Rush (DS).
Shadow the Hedgehog is also getting quite a bit of coverage as it's being developed. So hopes look high there also.
True, most of Sega's classic work was done as a first party developer, but that's just because they were also console developers, and ruled the world (alongside Nintendo). I personally think the development teams are just as good now, as they were then.
During the SMS days, Sega ruled. Even Sega's first party crap, was still a blast to play. *coughAstroWarriorcough*
I second this. I find their current work to be just as good as their older stuff. Sure there are gems and flops that stand out, but overall, I would say their quality has been very consistent.Originally Posted by JJNova
i too said 1st party. Sega has not really put out anything since dreamcast days that has really got me to turn my head exept for VirtuaFighter 4
1st Party, the greatest batch of games arrived only during that time of Sega's reign
These cartridges are dirty as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!
1st party baby!

1st party...Shenmue for Dreamcast!!!!!!!!
If their was an option for their quality being the same, I would have voted that. Loved their in house games, but also love games like Shinobi and Blood Will Tell for the PS2.
Absolutely,.. also -Originally Posted by atm55

Sega should team up with Nintendo and become the new Rareware and they'd all dance in a garden of flowers while they take over the world.
I don't like the queastion. It will only get reactions like it was so great in those old days when Sega was 1st party. The times has changed and Sega had no other choice then going third party.
Yes of course there are more classic Sega games from the time Sega was first party, but people forget the crappy games they made then. I think currently Sega released a lot of dman good games. I think of Shinobi and the sequal, Spike Out for X-box, PSO III, Out Run 2, Super Monkey Ball and some others.
So please come back to the real world, or start begging at Sega for new games for your 32X/Saturn/Dreamcast.
It is personally sad to see Sega where they are at these days. While I agree that the company does put up a decent title now and then, Sega is just not the third party developer that I envisioned them to be. Their pursuit of milking the stale sonic franchise needs to stop. Their choice of remaking games is bizarre, as well as their choice was to outsource their classics to a now defunct company. Who in their right mind makes a classics collection and does not put the original on the same dam disc? I was a huge Football 2K fan, and when the EA deal went down...I felt it in the balls.

My first reaction is to say first party, because I wish we still had a fourth runner in the console wars. The more competition there is, the better things will get for us.
i say first party
i think sega has made some amazing games when they were tied to a console
they had teams working on ideas for squeazing out what ever they could out of thier systems
look at sonic, the Ooze, phantasy star, castle of illusion, ecco, sports talk games, vectorman
now while they make good games - i have many of them - i dont think they go the extra step like they used to. Ofcourse this can also be atributed that no one realy needs to "squease out "anything any more becasue the systems are powerfull. Sega is still my favorite game developer and i still wish they had a console.
there should have been an option for still as good as before

I gotta go with 1st party too. Sega consoles feature plenty of classic sega titles, but since the death of the dreamcast the only really good sega games have been on handhelds (mega collection and gems collection don't count on the grounds that they're nothing more then compliations of 1st party titles).
I think the greatest proof that sega has lost their touch comes in the form of the Sega Classics Collection. Seriously what were they thinking?
hey take it eay on Sega Classics Collection It happens to be one of my fav game compilations ever.
Anyway I vote for first party.
Sega just isnt the same since the end of DC.
The Saturn was worth having for the incredible Sonic team and team Andromeda developed games alone Nights,PDsaga and Sonic Jam that was put together by Sonic team was faaar better than Sonic Mega collection with a whole slew of extras and spot-on gameplay etc.
Many of their new games just dont scream SEGA! anymore and I agree that they have been a let down soo far as a third party developer but Im hoping Phantasy Star Universe will up the Ante a little more.
Third-party. Although people may whine about not having a new Sega box to hammer away at, the Dreamcast killed off their chances of ever being a big-name first-party developer. Take Shenmue 2 for example - an epic game by any means, but cost Sega a pretty penny. Third-party productions are simply more profitable at the moment - and besides, introducing another console to either this or the next gaming gen would be foolhardy. Gamers are already fixated on the new XBox machine, or the PS3. From what I've read, people tend to think Sega console -> 32X, Saturn -> flop, waste of money. How can they win by going first-party?
As long as they continnue making excellent, enjoyable titles, then I don't care about not having a Dreamcast2 or whatever.
