Nintendogs Exclusive Virtual Gift at gamestop this weekend

If anyone hasn't heard yet, this halloween weekend gamestop will have a special version of nintendogs set up. If you go into bark mode you will meet with Halie Duff's dog and obtain a item you can't get anywhere else.

Now here's my question. I have heard from two seperate Gamefaqs posters that only the first person to enter bark mode at the store will get this. every person thereafter will meet the dog of the last person that entered bark mode. Can anyone confirm or deny?

Yeah i already knew that. my worry is that two gamestop employees on gamefaqs have stated that only the first person gets the gift. the next person to communicate with the cart will find the other persons dog on the game.

You don't understand just how hard i've tried to get one of those damn ds demo carts. Not a nintendogs one, but any in general. They are all shipped back to the company they came from, and if they don't get them back, they don't allow their products to be sold in your store.

Well, that pretty much kills my chances of getting this download. My Gamestop still has the Wario Ware and Feel The Magic demos in their systems since last year.

I went to my local Gamestop today (86th & Lex in NYC):

They didn't know anything about this promotion. Even the manager there had not heard of it.

That store smells TERRIBLE too. Everytime I go in there the little guy always says:

"Just to let you know we by back games and DVDs."

EB has the same Nintendog's demo cart (and Metroid Pinball) that GameStop, Sears, and whoever else on this planet has a kiosk. Granted, It all depends on when the Nintendo rep gets to your store..

I don't have a DS so I don't know what's on there, but the rep mentioned that you could take a gift and leave a gift.

I can't imagine only letting one person per cart get the first item...if there's no save function on the cart, wouldn't just resetting the machine put the item back on?

Ok all i finnaly had time to head out. here is what i found.

First the bad news

It IS limited to the first person who trades with the game! The bark mode only game SAVES after you connect to it, and YOUR dog will be the thing the next person sees. I went to two different gamestop. at one 7 people had traded (The DS screen of the bark mode only demo displays this info.) I tried to trade and was connecting to the dog of the last person that traded. Just to be sure I went to another gamestop. 2 people had already traded with this copy, and i was connecting with the last person who tried using it.

Now the good news

apparently Gamestop isn't the only store with these bark only mode nintendogs. On my way home I decided to stop at an out of the way EBgames incase this promotion wasn't a Gamestop exclusive. Lo and Behold they had the bark mode only version in their kiosk. It was in the corner of the store and hadn't been touched yet! 0 people had traded with it. I connected and BAM, i got the special sun glasses .

SO if anyone wants to take advantage of this promo head to a lesser used video game store that has DS demos and pray that none of the employees have tried it out yet.

Alright I got the goods now. And actually the Nintendo Rep and their bosses dont really know whats going on either, they said the same thing that was on here about the first one getting the gift. They said you had to erase the data from the game each time someone downloaded it but actually...

What it actually is is that if its in "Broadcast " mode then every single person who connects gets to meet the same dog and gets the same gift. Its when the game is in "Relay" mode then each person meets a dog and gets something and the next person meets that dog and gets whatever they left like you were talking about. Gamestops are supposed to leave it in Broadcast and when the weekend is over put it in Relay mode so the cart is useful afterwards and always something different.

You hold down L+A+B+X+Y to switch between the modes of the game. BTW, I tried all this several times and it works.

Wow, replies at the same time, but no that Broadcast mode does make it so you see Haylie's Dog each time, but I think the Reps leaves them on Relay when they leave for some reason cuz I had to switch it.

Edit: And you can erase the data to make sure by resetting the DS and when you are loading the game hold L+R+A++B+X+Y and you will erase the data so everything will start at 0.

well thats good to know! all the stores i had to went to were clueless. I'm partially relieved and partially pissed that i wasted so much time driving between stores that i didn't have to.

When exactly to do you pres L+A+B+X+Y

Press them in that order or all at the same time?

At the bottom of the screen it says either Relay Mode or Boadcast Mode, while you are in the Bark Mode you hold all those down at the same time and it should switch.
