Default help needed: what is "Famicom Disk Faxes"?

Hello! I need to know exactly what are the "Disk Faxes".

I can't find more infos on these.
This is from the Nintendo company history:

1987 - Sponsored a Family Computer "Golf Tournament" as a communications test using the public telephone network and Disk Faxes to aid in building a Family Computer network.
If anyone has more info, please help me. Thanks!

The Disk Faxes were terminals set up in retail stores for use with the contest disks (which were generally blue, BTW). Essentially, you popped the disk in the Disk Fax, and it sent your saved game data to Nintendo.

You don't know how much I appreciate this info. If you give me your name (PM) I'll write it at the end of the thesis I am writing for the university in a sort of special thanks.
