Default Does it exist: Super Game Boy 2 USA SNES version?

When the first Pokemon games were released, they were made for the Super Game Boy (SGB1), and had enhanced graphics and sound when played on a SGB1. However, there was one disadvantage to the SGB1: there was no link port, which was necessary for fighting other people's Pokemon and for trading Pokemon to get a complete collection. Therefore, Nintendo released the Super Game Boy 2 (SGB2), which includes a link port as well as a few other changes.

However, I have only seen the Japanese SGB2 for the Super Famicom. I have never seen a USA SNES version of the SGB2. Has anybody actually seen a SNES version SGB2? Does anybody know for sure if such a thing ever existed? How rare is it? How much is it worth?

    This page says:
This device is just like the original Super Game Boy, except for a few new changes. The Japanese version of the SGB has a transparent blue body (as you can see in the pic above), has a few new border designs, and, this is the major addition, Game Link compatibility; the US version is identical to the Japanese version, except excpet the body is grey and not transparent. Now, you can play 2 player GB games with the SGB2. I think it can be linked to a standard Game Boy as well as another SGB2; of course, with 2 SGB2s, you would need another SNES and TV monitor. The unit also has 2 LEDs, one red, which shows the power is on to the unit, and a green one, which indicates whether or not the Game Link is being used. You can see the 2 LEDs in the pic above, and the Game Link socket is found on the right hand side of the cartridge body. This Game Link socket is different than that used on the original Game Boy, it is the same used on the Game Boy Pocket, and can be hooked up to other Game Boy devices like the Pocket Camera and Pocket Printer.

This was released in Japan, on January 30 1998, and sold for 5,800 yen. In March 1998, QVC (the home shopping channel) offered the Super Game Boy 2 for sale, for $59.95, the MSRP for the original SGB.
Here are some pictures that show what SGB games like Pokemon and others look like on a SGB. When played on a GBC, GBA, or GB Player, they look like normal boring black and white GB games.

I have read that too... so it seems the only people that have it , ordered it through QVC or whatever. I've searched on ebay and never seen one. I do want one thought.

I figured there would be at least somebody here that had a complete USA SNES collection, and hence would have both Super Game Boys. It must be extremely rare. Maybe the USA version looks so similar to the original Super Game Boy, that it is mistakenly sold as a SGB1?

Yeah, the Japanese SGB2 is a clear blue-green color. I just combed through Ebay, looking at SGBs, and I noticed that the SGB was sold in at least two different boxes. The original box, and apparently later it was sold in a larger box that came packed with a SGB Player's Guide inside:

At the least, I want to get a picture of the USA version SGB2's box and cart. At least that way we know it exists and we know what to look for when on the collection hunt.

I have heard the QVC rumor before, but I've never actually seen an American SGB2. There is, however, a very simple mod you can do to add a link port if you really want to.

Of course Japanese SGB2 can play American games, as there is no regionprotection on the system.

About a week ago, I was browsing at a local shop, and there was a Super Gameboy in the shape of the Japanese SGB 2 style, but it was in a grey casing... Worth going back to look at?
We can rebuild him. We have the technology.

Sounds like the original Japanese SGB. Either that or a bootleg....

If you ever find a SGB2 in the wild to jump and say it's the American one. They have English writing on the front Japanese on the back. Atlease mine does.

Welll the original JP one didn't have the link port. Alsso, I very highly doubt that bootlleg SGBs ever existed at all.

Only Japanese ones exist, there "might" be a European version, but I know there aren't any USA versions.
