Default Gamecube Controllers are the sloppiest of the current gen.

As much as I think the Gamecube is comfortable and easier to use, the analog stick and D pad are totally sloppy. I have been playing GB games on the GB Player and it is almost impossible to play 2D games due to sloppy and awkward D pad control and placement. I have used Playstation controllers, which work wonderful on 2D games btw, I have used X Box controllers and even they are quite accurate, but the gamecube controller is the loosest of them all. Don't get me wrong I love the feel of the controller and it works wonders with 3D games but the D pad needs improvement. I have 3 Nintendo brand controllers and a few third party ones too and the D pads on all of them are touchy. I noticed they are even touchy on first person shooters like Nightfire where you use the D pad to select weapons. I wish nintendo worked out that flaw in their controller, I will be buying a Hori controller as soon as PlayAsia restocks them. I don't want this to turn into a flame Nintendo thread but does anyone else agree with me? Kudos to anyone who makes a PS2 to GC controller adapter.

Anyone else have any reccomendations for controllers other than the Hori that will accomodate the Gameboy Player well?
If they made a movie out of your top five worst sins, what would it be rated?

Yeah the controller blows for anything involving the D pad. Cap vs SNK is a nightmare. Just go with a PS2 to GCN addapter that the best option I've seen yet. Other then the Snes style controller.

While I luv the GC controller the only thing that I DONT like about it is the terrible D-pad ugh I guess after all these years I have unfortunately gotten very used to the Dualshocks and even prefer it when playing not only 2-D fighters but even newer games like RE4 to much of my own surprise.

I like the dpad on the gamecube controller my only complaint is the yellow joystick. it's pretty meh though kind of fun to play fighting games with it.

I think the reason for the small d-pad on the 'cube controller is that current gaming trends were that fewer and fewer games were relying on the digital d-pad on controller in favor of the analog sticks. Mainly because gaming was becoming almost exclusively 3D. So why put more money into a d-pad which will be rarely used.

I never found it to be 'sloppy', perhaps that's because I rarely use it. As soon as Hori released the GBP controllers in the US I picked one up for better control in fighters and platformers.

Gamecube Controllers are the sloppiest of the current gen.

Looking over at the PS2 controller, I see an uncomfortable cluttered mess of buttons. Nothing innovative...just copying the PS1's controller, which, coincidentally, copied the Nintendo 64 AND Super NES controller.

The PSOne controller copied the N64 controller?

Where do you dream this stuff up? If your referring to analog control, I guess we can say Nintendo copied it from Atari and GCE first.

No, he's saying that the Playstation controller ripped off the SNES controller, being basically the same layout, but with the addition of handles and two more shoulder buttons. He just got the system name wrong.

EDIT: At least, I hope that's what he's saying.

Well, that would probably be because it was originally going to be part of the SNES.

    Just a guess

He specified N64 and the Dual Shock by his inclusion of saying the PS2 controller copied the PSOne controller.

I'd agree with the statement that the original PSOne controller copied the SNES controller, but he didn't even hint at that.

He just dreams random stuff up here to post it seems...

If anything, Nintendo copied the Dual Shock. Current generation controllers are much closer to the layout established by Sony than the N64 design. And as I stated, Nintendo didn't invent analog joysticks.

What the hell? How did either system copy joysticks from the other? Thats like saying Bush copied Clinton's idea of being president. Now if we're talking about the actual physical makeup of each one here is a hint, NEITHER company makes the joysticks themselves that I'm aware of. I'm pretty sure they purchase them from 3rd party companies. If they buy from the same company maybe thats becaues they are the best.

Nifty trick. I guess Sony got into their time machine, back in 1994, and went forward to 1996 to see what Nintendo was doing?

Right, about that time machine. Sony also copied that from Nintendo, but this actually caused a temporal paradox since Nintendo hadn't made it yet.

There's also the issue of the PSX Dual Shock controller (which is, yes, post-N64, I believe) looking absolutely nothing at all like the N64 controller. Maybe you mean the Saturn 3D pad copied the N64? Oh, right, only Sony can be villains.

    I forgot.

Good deal...it's been so long since I saw these linked that I had forgotten.

I'm getting by with my GC controllers, personally.

Avatard: "Thats like saying Bush copied Clinton's idea of being president" is my favorite quote from today, gg.

Stolen rumble. Stolen analog sticks. Stolen Camera-Button idea (addition of a second analog stick = camera)

There were force feedback controllers before the N64 rumble pack was released. I was playing PC racing simulations with force feedback racing wheels well before the 64's rumble pack was out.

Analog sticks were done before the N64 as well. And comparing a second analog stick to the Z button (or the c buttons) of the N64 controller doesn't make any sense.

Sony's controller is what current controllers, including Nintendo's, are designed after. Integrated force feedback, dual sticks, etc.
