Default PS1 emulator for PSP on the way soon?

Some hacker is working on a PS1 emulator for PSP. It's an Alpha version right now and can only run a simple demo but sounds promising:

As much as I'd love to see a PS1 emulator for PSP, I have a hard time believing that it can be done (at least one that's playable). What do you guys think? Is it possible or is the PSP not powerful enough to handle PS1 emulation?

He seems pretty sure, and the demo released has a snazzy particle effect, showing that even complicated effects are emulatable, Ive got high hopes for this.

This is a guess, but I'd say yes, it's possible. Only on a firmware that allows you kernal access though (so currenly only 1.5 say).

HOw playable it'll be is another matter though

His web site says he has games running at half a frame a second. Sounds like there is a fair bit of work to do, yet I wish him well, though.

Considering that they can't run all SNES or Genny games at full speed, I would say that I seriously doubt it. But if they did, that would be really cool. Man, just imagine if there was a decent Saturn emulator and it could do that.

That would have to be some seriously streamlined code though.

The PSX had a Clock speed of 33.8688MHz and with the PSP having a clock speed of 333MHZ It may very well be possiable..

I was looking at the specs of it right now

    LINK

and thats very close to the GBA's Specs

Though the GBA emulator isn't running to hot either. course the last time I used it on the PSP. was when it just barely able run them with very low frame rates.
