    Default Super Mario`s Wacky Worlds

Have you ever played it? I never thought the Philips CD-i could equal the quality of the best SNES games. I wish Novalogic didn't have to cancel this baby. Quite a lot of levels are playable even with enemies around.

I also wonder if there are more of these proto-games around on cd-i......

Search for 'Super Mario' and you'll even find video`s.

It's really too bad this game wasn't finished... as it is, there's really not a whole lot of "game" here. For those of you who haven't tried it and may never get a chance: There is no level progression... when you boot the game, you get a menu and can choose levels from there (not all of them work). You can't exit a level, so the only way to get back to the menu (as far as I could find) is to reboot the CD-i. You can't die in the game, and enemies just disappear when they die. There are also no real interactive elements in the game... no powerups or anything like that. So you load the game up, jump on a couple of platforms, and that's about it.

However, the demo shows a lot of promise. The levels look very nice, although they're all rather short (I assume these levels would have been "tied together" in a final release). There seems to be different "themes" of enemies planned, so when you go to the level with the Trojan horse in it, the Koopa Troopas are dressed like Roman soldiers and such... kind of a neat touch. The mechanics also work very much like the SNES game, so all the running and jumping feels very solid. If they had actually finished this game and released it, I think it would have been one of the CD-i's best titles (if not THE best title).

You're absolutely right: This could have been the best game on CD-i. Nonetheless the existing Mario game on CD-i (Hotel Mario) and the Zelda's Adventure game are both great games, with great depth and gameplay. You can't deny Hotel Mario has a whole Nintendo style all over it.

I also read some stories sbout another Mario game, 'Mario Takes America' Has anyone ever heard of this one?

and raedon: try another link! Use the search!

    thanks,

    David

I've never heard of that one before...

...but shouldn't that be "Takes Europe, dumps Japan?"

That is a real shame that game was never completed. I have yet to acquire a CD-i but if that game did actually exist in it's entirety then I would soon be getting one to play it on. It looks like it would've been really good.
The world has moved on and left me behind. Therefore I choose to retreat into the past.

Yeah from the video I just watched it looks like a lot of fun to play, I'd totally look into owning a CD-I just for that purpose, if only it was completed
