Default Sega Master System rares - need some help

I just spent an hour using the search function to find some info on the rares for the Sega Master System.

Without any type of lecture, can anyone help me out on this one?

Looking to find out what the generally accepted titles that are hard to find - US releases only - NO homebrew info needed.

    THanks,
    Steve

Orri, what is your deal with "rare" games? You're posting all these questions about what games are the most valuable and not really asking much else? Why do you need to know so bad? So you can go hunt them down and sell them all on eBay? It just seems like a weird thing to be asking about EVERY SINGLE system. Did you just start collecting for EVERY system all the sudden, or what?

In addition to Maxlords comment, we do have a nice DP guide that can be used to figure out all there *rare* and *HTF* games.

    Maxlords,

Who died and left you boss? I was pretty sure that the purpose of this was forum was (at least in part) to find out information about the hobby that we all enjoy.

I have a lot of experience with certain systems, but there are plenty of others that I do not - hence the postings.

If there was a plethora of information readily available, I wouldn't have to post these topics at all. Apparently, you didn't read my thread very well - I tried on my own to get the information, but guess what - it just wasn't there!

Does it matter whether why I want the information - what are you, the video game police or Nazi enforcer?

Truth be told, I hate eBay, and make no secret about it. However, if I see good deals to purchase there, then I want to be informed - hence the questions. If you have no information, then how can you discern whether a game is truly hard to find, or just some seller talking shit? I AM trying to collect for every system, what's wrong with that? Most collectors have a system or two of expertise, I am no different. Yet, if I wish to branch out, I am what - being an ass for asking a question? Isn't that the purpose of this forum?

That (since you asked), is why I am asking about all of the different rares. If you don't want to supply any valuable information, then don't reply - otherwise, you just come off as negative.

And Achika - by the way, I am quite aware that DP has a guide. However, unless I have it in front of me (mine is on order), it does me no good at the present time. The rartity guide listing is only detailed for the systems NOT included in DP version 7.

I do appreciate your sarcasm though...

personally i think everybody on this forum could relax.......nobody on here really knows everything so just shut up and keep asking questions......and i'm not pointing the finger at any one person......some/most people could lighten up some, the point of a forum is so ppl can join under one obsession/profession, this one is video games, so take it easy......

As far as I know, this forum is for finding out all kinds of cool gaming info. Ok...I have a lot of experience with a few systems, same as you. I read your thread fine...it's just that you've done it something like 15 times in the last week or two and you don't care about actual rarity, only high prices. It sounds really odd. Think about it from everyone else's perspecitve. You posted like 7 posts in a row that ALL got locked cause they've all been asked before and you didn't bother to use the search function to see if they had been asked before. Then you continue to post more questions about more different systems and only want to know about the monentary values...not if they're good or rare...just expensive. It sounds weird. The only other time I've heard a question like that is from store owners trying to price their inventory. The info is out there if you look hard enough, and the DP guide (mine is also on order) covers what you can't find. If you have a question about a specific game or 10, ask it...but you're asking about THOUSANDS of games. It seems....odd. And I'm not the videogame police..that's Joe Lieberman: http://lieberman.senate.gov/

I'm not a mod, I just speak my mind. If that offends you, I'm sorry, take it to the battlezone. But Joe here tries to run a site that requires money and he sells a product that answers all these questions, and by asking them ALL on this board you undermine the sales of his guide a bit.

I branch out as well, but if I miss a deal or two before I get my guide...oh well. Life goes on. Relax and wait for your guide, that's all. If you miss a few good scores on eBay...it's not like there won't be more later. By the way...not all rare games are worth money and not all valuable games are rare The guide is only that...a guide that helps you. You'll still have to do some work on your own to find out what is worth your money and how much money, no matter what.

Probably the hardest games to find are Hang On/Astro Warrior (particularly rare since it's a combo cart) and Double Dragon. I guess I might as well mention Snail Maze, though there's a 99.999% chance you'll never find it. It's so fucking rare.

    Maxlords,

I have made ABSOLUTELY no reference to price or value in ANY of those postings - including this one. My goal was to find out what people most typically believe are the hardest games to find, so I could keep an eye out for them.

I don't care what games are worth, I just want to know what ones to look for - or rather, will I be pulling my hair out to find them.

I know what I paid for my games, which is no one else's business, but at the same time, for future purchases, it is nice to know how much I should expect to pay for a particular game.

I am quite aware of the two-fold purpose of the DP guide, and I support it fully. However, you telling me to rest on my laurels until I get mine is just silly.

Finally, I don't think that you read the posts at all - because I do care about actual rarity - not what's valuable. Value is in the eye of the beholder, period. Value is only what someone will pay for something - you can get $100 for a Super Mario 3, if someone is willing to pay for it. Value means nothing - it's just a guide to know how much you should be expected to pay.

Rarity on the other hand, is what I have been asking about. In fact, I'll go one better. I would love to know why a rare game is, in fact, rare. Low production, carried only by porno mags, religious stores, late release - whatever.

So, please don't presume to say that I care about value or price - you would have a very difficult time trying to find me asking for that information.

If it is rare US games you are looking for, try not to use the rarity lists too much on your search. The whole lot of them are all outdated an very inaccurate.

Any games released in the US in the year 1990 are considered the rarest, Buster Douglas KO Boxing being the hardest to find of those titles, followed by Super Monaco GP.

If you happen to find a Sonic the Hedgehog box with the an alternate UPC sticker over the original UPC code, that is a US released version of the game that was very limited. It was the last game released.

Other rare US titles include Golden Axe Warrior and Psycho Fox. You've probably heard a lot about Phantasy Star being rare, but while it is harder to find than others, it is mainly a sought after title that people mistaken for being rare. This goes for just about any great and discontinued RPG.

    Hope this has helped.

There were two cover variations of Power Strike, the plain blue & white one was the rarer of the two.

Castle of Illusion ranks high in the guide and in my collection. It's one of the HTF games, it definately took me a few years. But it's worth every penny that you'll ever pay.

    Thanks ShinobiMan and Achika -

That was the kind of information that I was hoping to find. Little tidbits like what games came with alternative packaging or were released late in the system's life cycle are cool pieces of trivia.

    I appreciate your responses.

Heck, there's only 114 US releases, just buy them all. I'm now up to 49 as of yesterday, the sweetest was Phantasy Zone for $5 at the Sacramento flea market (Denios) a year ago.

Keep an eye out for the ultra-rare hang on/safari hunt cart. I hear the cart alone is worth a mint.
