Default Laying an arcade cabinet on its back?

I will be buying my first arcade cabinet tomorrow. Neo Geo 4 slot for $500. Now I want to save on renting a u-haul and lay it on my buddy's pickup truck. My question, is this bad for the machine and should I spend the bit extra to make sure it stays standing upright?

I can't say whether it is good or bad for it but my parents and I fit a Street Fighter 2 cabinet in the back of our station wagon when I bought it and it worked great still. It might have been on its side though, but it could have been on its back, its hard to remember now.

Lying it down is perfectly fine, although I think there might be a side prefered over another, something to do with the seating of the board. But, thats how our crazy arcade alley guy ClubNinja transports his cabs. He doesn't even have a truck, he uses a station wagon.

Can't you just strap it in the pickup standing upright?

I transported my Baby Pacman and Playchoice 10 on their backs, and nothing went wrong.

It's got one of these things on the back. It is a pain to take on and off.

You going to transport it while it's turned on?

    No?

Then there shouldn't be a problem. Unless the monitor comes off or something. :P

I recall new arcade cabs coming into "Comics "N" Arcade" In the back of a van like that.

Obviously it was a business not a collector thing "Who knew collectability was a factor then?" But I dont remember any coming in that didnt work.

Congrats on the Neo Geo machine though.

I moved my Volly machine (1973 pong clone) in the back of my 1992 saab 900s hatchback. You'll be fine as long as everything is secure. Make sure EVERYTHING is secure. Make sure no coins are on the bottom of the thing, no coins in the coin box, control panel is secured, all doors and panels are locked, monitor is secured to the frame, chassis is secured to the frame or monitor, power supply and all power components are secured, all shelves are secured, etc. I think you get the idea.

Yes, open it up and make sure it's all solid inside, disassemble and remove anything that isn't. Remove any MVS cartridges inside, clean out the coinbox as JohnnyA said, make sure it's shut tightly as well. The MVS has a pretty big display, make sure all the mounts are secured. That's why I'd rather move stuff like this upright but since thats not an option, strap it down.

Make sure to open up the back and throw the power cord inside of the cabinet

Ford Escort wagon, at that! I think I'm going to be upgrading in the semi-near future, though.
