    Default Colecovision Heaven

I think I made the steal of the century - I have picked up a Colecovision complete with turbo expansion unit and about 9 games all for the princely sum of 15 quid about 20 dollars or so.

I thought it was a good buy - don't know much about the games that came with it as haven't even had a chance to play it yet. Games include Zaxxon, Time Pilot, Smurf, Donkey Kong etc....

So does anyone know what games I should be looking out for or even better does anyone have any going spare they would like to part with

Lots of great games for the CV!

    My faves in no order:
    Donkey Kong jr
    Frogger
    Tapper
    Zaxxon
    Donkey Kong
    Omega Race
Bump n Jump (rocks with the wheel and pedal!)

Plus watch newcoleco's posts for new homebrew info!

I hear Spy Hunter is better than the NES version, but I don't have it ...yet!

Beware that CV's are now becoming prone to power switch failures and auto level select issues. Read the CV FAQ for more about that. It's all fixable if it happoens though, so no real worries.
    Enjoy!

Very nice find, some very good games in that list.

I don't wish to hijack the thread, but I do have a question about the steering module. I just found one a few weeks ago...and I can't get the steering wheel to work. The pedal works fine however.

I see that it takes batteries, I figure I need to change them, but would the pedal still work if the batteries were dead??

I think I need a new system as well...I think the controller ports are going bad I was playing the Smurf game (fun!) but every time would start walking, he would go a little way, then stop, and then start again...happened with all 4 of my controllers

It seems to me like there must be a way to get it to work w/o batteries as that is how they are on every other system. Coleco's is the only one I've seen that requires batteries. Just bad design prob. It won't work w/o batteries as is. If it's not working there might be some crud inside messing up the encoder in the wheel. I've had one go dead like that. You should be able to get a like new one for $10 or so though. It's more likely that all four of your controllers are bad than your CV. I've had to throw away a small pile of about 10 CV controllers that were all bad. I read that when the CV port shorts out it'll result in the level select happening automatically without you touching the pad. It must get f'ed up because of the weird angle the cords tug at it. Just having it facing you straight on would've probably eliminated most problems.

    @scooterb23

I have a steering module like that. Someone left the batteries in it, and acid leaked all over the circuit board. DOA. I salvaged bits from it, like the pedal, the housing, and the battery cover. I tried to fix it by resoldering the battery wire to the board, but the board had been bathed in acid... no hope.

It is also conceivable to have 4 wonky controllers. Really. Controller IC failure usually results in an auto level select problem. What you are describing sound like old/broken/dirty controller contacts. If they aren't broken, you can sandpaper the contact points of the direction switch with a thin strip of folded sandpaper, and then blow it out with compressed air. That usually fixes directional problems for me. Sometimes a 'not broken' direction switch needs to be soldered in.

It's all fixable, for the determined.

Thanks all for the help...I just thought it was odd that every single controller (2 regular and 2 Super Action) would have the exact same problem... Will look into it.

As for the driving module, the last owners left batteries in...luckily no leakage!!!

Just to add to the rcommendations...Bump N Jump and Turbo are great fun! Especially with the driving controller!!!! And I love the Smurf side-scrolling game....
