Default Recommend some good Tengen NES titles to me!

I currently own 19 NES games, none of them being Tengen titles. I'd like to have at least one black Tengen cart in my collection. Tengen Tetris would be a sweet find, but we all know how to tough it is to acquire a copy and I doubt I'll find one soon (although I'm hoping I'm wrong on that).

Anyways, other than that, I don't know much about the good Tengen titles out there, so I'm turning to you guys.

    What do you recommend?

If you're a fan of puzzles, it's hard to go wrong with Klax. RBI Baseball is a must-have too.

Now that's my specialty. I've reviewed every NES Tengen game (with the exception of Gauntlet which will be in the June issue, and Fantasy Zone which is done and will be in May's issue) in comparison to their arcade counterparts over at Retrogaming Times Monthly. Look for my "Titles of Tengen" column in the current issue and RTM previous issues, issues 07~15, 17~23+ will have one. I was omitted from issue 16 due to an e-mail problem. I encourage you to read all my Titles of Tengen columns (and all of RTM while you're at it).

    My favorites are...
Super Sprint (my favorite Tengen game, my review sucks though, was still cutting my teeth with writing for RTM so it's formatted like the game reviews at my site)
    Rolling Thunder
Ms. Pac-Man (the Tengen version beats the pants off the Namco licensed release)
    Klax
    Tetris
    Vindicators
    Road Runner

Games to stay away from unless it's just to collect...
    Toobin'
Alien Syndrome (not the worst Tengen port but the most disappointing)
Skull & Crossbones (now THIS is the worst Tengen port)
Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom (nothing like the arcade game = poor reception and a letdown)

Other games fall in the middle, RBI Baseball is very good though and was/is very popular.

Honestly Pac-Mania is FAR harder to find than Tetris in my experence. It's the hardest Tengen release to find but it's a bad game - so it's usually cheap when you do find a copy.

Oh man, Pac-Mania is one of my favorite Tengen games... top 5 easy.

I'd say Rolling Thunder, Super Sprint, Tetris, Klax, and Pac-Mania are the best Tengen games. (*Super Sprint and Tetris are a lot more fun with two players).

RBI Baseball is OK as far as Tengen games go, but there are other baseball games for the NES that are way better.

I really liked RBI baseball! I'd definately recommend it.

Tengen tetris is great too - I know a local seller that always has a copy for sale, but wants an obscene amount of money for the loose cart.

    19 games? holy f*ck, you've got a way to go x_x .

Anyways, Most of the best Tengen games I have are, sadly, rare and/or expensive. Yep, you'll have to pony-up to the plate to enjoy games like Ms. Pac-Man [going price-$13], Klax [going price-$12], or Tetris [going price-$41]. I'll try not to bore you with tips on how to find these games (and how I got one of them for $5 ), but I can tell you that they're some other cheaper games that are more enjoyable (Rolling Thunder is a good one, for example.)

all I can say about bad Tengen titles is that you should STAY AWAY from Shinobi!!! Horrible port, impossible bosses; heck, most of the time there is'nt even a background! The ending won't win any awards, neither

Vindicators is a decent port, if you dont have the awesome MAT1 version already.

For me my favorite is Super Sprite, I feel its pretty close to the arcade version minus the steering wheels but it runs pretty much the same. Also it doesn't go for as much as some of the other Tengen games. It was the first one that I picked up just because its a great game to play, at least that my opinion.

Vindicators is great. Klax is amazing (so weird and great music).

I just sold a Tengen Tetris to someone on the boards for... $40 I think.

Heh, I guess it depends on if he's going for a complete collection. I have about 35 NES carts, just the games I like to play. But as an old fart I'm more of an Atari 2600 guy with over 250 carts...

Anyway, I recommend Super Sprint and Tetris...

    Cheers,

Cart only usually sells for between 5-10$. I'm sure that the CIB copy will rise in price in the last seconds of the auction.

Pac-Mania is also one of my favorite Tengen games, but if I were you, I'd go for a Camerica title if you don't already have one. IMO the Camerica games look better than the Tengen games, plus they are generally more fun
I'm always looking for new boxed NES accessories. If you've got any for sale, shoot me a PM!

Fantasy Zone is an alright game to kill a few minutes. One of the bosses is near impossible for me to beat, the one that moves around in circles.

You don't seem to understand, your LONG LINK requires a full half screen of left to right scrolling JUST TO READ everyone else's posts. You're not a repeat offender but you're not a new user either.
