Default Speaking of hard SMS games... Vigilante comes to mind

Here's another game that just keeps kicking my ass each time I play, not sure if it's the difference in speed IE you're a snail they're hares, or poor attack reach, but it's damn near impossible to connect with the enemy before they grab you, ESPECIALLY in the later stages when even joe blow enemies take multiple hits to defeat.

I've started to notice that trend among a lot of SMS games, some are so easy and rythmic they're jokingly easy and others are just brutal. Not enough middle ground difficultly levels... but they are there.

That's funny you're having so much trouble with this one. Vigilante was one of the few SMS games I actually beat when I was a kid. It wasn't easy but not nearly as hard as some other games. Try beating Time Soldiers without using the continue trick or Miracle Warriors without a walkthrough (I had to use the walkthough for MW but I beat TS without cheating). Another one that always enraged me is Kenseiden. That game is so fun but there are a couple parts that destroy me every time.

Tough game, but once you learn the ins and outs it becomes fairly simple. There are much harder SMS games (cough cough My Hero). x_x

    Vigilante? Tough?

The "trick" (not much of a trick really ) is to never lose the nunchakus. If you can hang onto 'em, the enemies will never touch you. After that, it's just a matter of being patient with all the cheap bosses, particularly the twin dudes in the junkyard.

Is the Turbografx Vigilante the same game, or something else?

Same game. They're all ports of the lame Irem arcade game, notable only for the first end boss who shouts, "Hey, come on!" and looks like a shorter, stouter version of Hillbilly Jim.

Another vote for, "surprised you're having so much trouble". The game really stands out to me as being one of the few games that I beat the first day we had it. The first stage or so was tricky but once you get the hang of the game it's a pretty easy 1CC

Hehehe, you know what elese is funny, I speak of my troubles with Vigilante and someone mentions My Hero being hard... I've been able to loop thru My Hero 5 or 6 times in a sitting a few times... just gotta rely on the jump kick!

argh, jump kick abuse :S That's one thing I don't like about Golden Axe - all the damn jump kicking gets old after awhile, amazingly enough.

Right, Vigilante. Surprised it didn't show up on the site of "This sprite ripper has a strange fetish," because it's got Madonna (??) being carted off by goons (again, WTF). Don't remember if the TG-16 game's got the intro intact. All things considered, Undercover Cops is a much better time.
