Default Things you've learned at the Retrogaming Roundtable

    Because I'm curious.

I was just reading through the thread about music CD's packed in with games and once again learning something from my visit here to the Roundtable. Then I thought about some of the other posts just in recent days, and learned a thing or two about Saturn imports, SHMUPS, and even accessories.

But think about this one. What are some of the really enlightening things you've taken away from these forums? I'm sure everyone's got something - I've been gaming pretty seriously right from the get-go and am still stumped and amazed on a regular basis.

    Share your "learnings" here please!

Well other than how to SPEND MORE MONEY.....

Umm.. a lot of things come to mind. Mainly information about classic games and systems. Many times when you look into getting information on a game/system you wind up with one person's (usually unprofessional) opinion. Here we usually get many ideas from any number or members (then it is up to us to draw out on conclusions).

Other things would include information about unreleased games and goodies. Things that only those special few can get their hands on.

Also news info. I do not frequent any news sites so this is my source for info on game releases/ recalls etc. (other than mags and GameStop of course)

    That's all for now! =]

Well, for one thing, I've learned that I'm not a 'freak' for collecting and playing antique video games.

I've learned more about game values then I ever would have if I just ran out and started buying used games.

Also wanted to add I get a lot fo good deals just from "Heads up! Hot Deal online" posts.

That I'm not really a social outcast for playing games 24/7...and how to start out a decent collection!

I've learned TONS about classic systems like Atari and VIC 20....stuff I NEVER would have considered collectible before. I'd always began at NES for collecting myself until I came here. Still don't play many of the classics though. I've also learned how many SERIOUS collectors are hiding out there...it seems the ones I meet outside this group are rarely as serious and dependable as the ones here.

EVERYTHING! If it wasn't for these forms my video game collection would be my NES with my 20 games that I originaly had. Everything I have learned has been from these fourms or the DP 7 guide. There are many collectors here with a wealth of knowledge and I continue to learn and still be amazed by all the knowledge that some people have on these fourms. So a big thank you to everybody on these fourms because I have learned something from just about every body here (with a few exceptions)

@Gunstarhero: Well, we are all freaks, but at least we stick together.

@Starcade: To go along with what I said to Gunstarhero, we are our own society that exists, mainly, outside of the norm, anyway.

But I too have learned that I am not alone, thankfully, in my love of the "classics." I also realized how quickly I need to get my collection big before all the "wells" dry up.

I also learned that Joe is really cool. .............

I've learned that anything can be traded. "One man's junk..", as they say. I rarely care for the boxes that carts come in, but others do care. Instead of stacking the boxes in the basement like I used to do, I can trade them for things I want. Same goes for sleeves, foam inserts, hard drives, toe nail clippings, etc etc. I first realized this last year with the giant box haul I had - some of my best trades spawned from that beast. Trading is what really keeps this hobby alive, outside of the actually gaming. It's been the thing I treasure the most, really.

I hate to sound sappy, but I remember my first trade on r.g.v.c a bunch of years ago. That single trade instantly broadened this hobby for me. Ever since, it's been incredible. DP, however, is the place where most of my trade "connections" have come from - people that I keep in touch with after the minor trade is done. I'm on a tangent now, but the art of trading with *excellent* people is the greatest thing I've learned here. *sniffle* ; )

I learned about the new-fangled anti-mod protections being used on the Japanese PS1 games coming out now, and promptly had a buddy of mine send me a real live Japanese PS1 so I could play a couple of otherwise unplayable titles.

    Hmm, all sorts of stuff.

    1. It's 'ok' to have collections that fill rooms, it's nice to know others are out there that are like me & support me.
    2. I always have a 24-hour live & free tech support line that helps my Channel F off life support.
    3. Vidgame.net doesn't need a forum, everything people need to know or are looking for, I point them here.
    4. Mostly everyone here is genuinely nice & helpful

I've learned that I'm not the only one who thinks 2d gaming is far superior to 3d.

I've also learned that buttasuperb loves Dirty Sanches and being donkey punched.
