Timestalkers and Quest 64 are the worst i can think of.
For years I wouldn't play RPGs on consoles, that's what PCs are for after all. But I just picked up a PS2 and decided to get Suikoden III after hearing raves about it here. While the graphics are "ok" and the music is nice it's frustrating the living hell out of me its so slow. Having to click a button every time a character says something is the most annoying thing in the world, especially <click>when<click> they're<click> rambling<click> on<click> about<click> absolutely<click> nothing<click>of<click>importance<click>
Give me the Ultima, Bard's Tale, Wizardry, and Might & Magic series' anyday.
Having to click a button when they say something? What are they supposed to do, just keep going before you're done reading? Or even worse, NOT let you speed it up?
Rend, slaughter, devour your enemies. There is no other way to survive. You cannot escape your hunger, Warriors of Purgatory

I can't believe no one's mentioned GranStream Saga yet. That was one of the handful of games I've actually traded in for credit.
Max, how come you didn't like Lufia 1 or 2?
For me the worst rpgs I played:
Tecmo Secret of the Stars
Secret of Evermore
Final Fantasy 8 (didn't feel like a FF title, too sci-fi)
Final Fantasy X
Dark Cloud count?

BLECH! i bought timestalkers a while ago at funco, and MAN DID IT SUCK! The monster system was terrible, not letting you carry more than 2 monsters, and whenever i would get an upgrade point, i would choose to upgrade something, then it would go right back down again! At one point, they were selling minigames to put on your VMU, which didnt FREAKIN WORK AT ALL!! oh, and i cant forget the terrible debugging job done up the ass for that game!
Quest 64 was extremely boring and tedious. dont even want to talk about how i spent 20 bucks for it.
and QoF, i actully like LoD! i like how you actully do something when battling!
I also like Secret of Evermore. I think it is a very fun game, but sure as hell not as fun as mana.
Somebody once told me to get a life.
I told them I sold it for money to buy video games.
In a way, but not in a way, Dragon Warrior for the NES.
If you were very patient, all you had to do was fight the minor enemies near your home castle until you had enough experience levels to safely go to wherever you had to go. It would be slow and tedious, but you could do it. Also, the DragonLord never gained any power, so you were never rushed. Using this method (once I caught on to the game), all I had to do was build myself up to the 26th level, and so, easily gaining the "final sword," fight and defeat the DragonLord- he never had a chance. Try that in Lord of the Dungeon; you're in danger in the lower levels no matter how powerful you are! There also wasn't too much variety in the monsters, unlike Wizardry.
Yet, when playing it for the first time, Dragon Warrior was fun. And requiring you to figure out the clues was a good touch.
Quest 64 sucked...especially beating enemies with your staff.

Wow I like alot of the RPGs that were mentioned :/ oh well everyone has different tastes but I would have to agree that Quest 64 and Timestalkers were pretty low, it amazes me that RPGs like those are released in the US and yet so many better made quality RPGs never make it to these shores from Japan, hmmmmmmm
Games, games and more games
I don't know...never gave them a chance really I suppose. Maybe they're good, but the battles in Lufia 1 were FUGLY!Originally Posted by Kaine23

I'm going to go with FF8. I tried really hard to like that game. So very hard, but alas to no avail. I turned out to be one big pile of suck. Which is a shame really cause Squall was cool.
I am in fact the guy that made the Raisins prototype worth thousands less by dumping it. "D'oh!!"
The battles in Lufia 1 reminded me of the battle equences in the SNES DQ titles actually in a sense.Originally Posted by maxlords
