    Default CGE 2007 ???

Well as you know we should be going to CGE 2006 this year, but the guys are taking this year off and they deserve it.... So what I want to know how are the plans for next years show coming along. Have we picked a place to hold it yet? I think taking it back to vegas would be great for the 10th Anniversary. So what do you think?

Although there's no date specifically listed, the "days to go" counter says (as of today) 345 days to go, which puts it back in the first weekend of August.

I'm very very happy about that; the third weekend of August makes it problematic for people (students, teachers, etc.) who start the fall semester at that time; the first week of August seems to have the fewest conflicts. (This was a minor reason why I didn't go to OVGE; although I technically could have made it OK because it was only on one day and could have driven back on Sunday--today--I really need that time to start preparing for classes.)

And I'm really crossing my fingers for Vega$.

I hope it's not in Vegas... that makes it much more expensive to go. Plus, it just makes more sense for it to be in the Bay Area. Last year's location was just a few towns over from where they had the first public Pong machine. It's also where the likes of Atari, Activision, Imagic, Sega of America, Electronic Arts, and many other important classic game companies were founded. Vegas is just a bunch of gambling... not really much to do with videogames.

I'd love for it to be in Vegas. I've been wanting to go there for quite some time. Vegas would seal the deal for me.

Default Pinball Hall of Fame in Vegas

Plus if you bring it back to Vegas there's the Pinball Hall of Fame http://www.pinballmuseum.org/. It has 200+ pinbal games plus several vintage arcade machines. I don't think there's any arcade or event in the world that has more pinballs.

My guess is that the deciding factor will be how much of the local population you can get to go to the show. It seems there'd be more local in Cali than Vegas. Personally my vote is Vegas, baby!

Vegas is overrated and NorCal doesn't have any sort of legit classic game show going on outside of CGE and Cali Extreme (which is strictly coinop). Come back to the Bay CGE...the neonlights don't enhance the gameplay and alcohol generally tastes the same no matter where you are drinking it...

Last year's location was in the SAME town (Burlingame) where Nolan Bushnell first saw the Odyssey and got the idea for Pong.

    Default Back to Vega$!

I missed the first CGE in 1998 but attended all the others in Vegas (1999 - 2003). But when they moved it to CA I decided to pass.

As someone mentioned in another thread, if things get a little dull at the expo, just walk over to a casino. LOTS of stuff to do after the expo shuts down for the evening and it's even worth staying a few extra days to see the sights and a show. And I always ejoyed the unique "charm" of the Plaza Hotel.

If you're in downtown San Jose, there isn't that great a variety of things to do after hours. I live in TX and it's a wash as far as travel goes but I think Vegas is much more fun than San Jose.
