    I'm not sure how useful FreeDOS is on it's own, but there are a number of programs that only exist because of FreeDOS which are very helpful. For example, the CuteMouse driver that is distributed with FreeDOS is probably the best DOS mouse driver around, and is quite small to boot. Saves me a few extra K of ram on my DOS machine in the basement.
