Default Questions about Japanese PS2 in the US

Hi, what is the easiest way to play both Japanese imports for the PS1 and the PS2? Would it be to buy a japanese PS2 and import it? Or would it be smarter to have a American Ps2 modified in some way to play Japanese games?
Anyone that has any experience with this- could you please reply or contact me?

Currently I'm shopping for a Japanese PS2, myself. You don't have to worry about compatibilty issues if you have a Japanese system. ^_^ If you want to Ebay for one, it'll probably be around $200. If you want a brand new one, your best bet is www.videogamedepot.com $250 with free shipping.

BUT- do you need a power converter for the wall outlet?
or is the voltage the same?

no- the system will run right out of the box. just set it up, plug it in- change the menu options to english in the browser, and you're all set. the ONLY big difference you'll notice is that the jps2 uses the circle button to confirm selections, while X cancels...

I'd just buy the Japanese PS2.

I'm sure you remember the troubles I had when playing my cooking game at Joe's. I can only imagine this would get worse for PS2 games as they start to get around the chips that are on the market.

-Games that won't play because the it can sense the system being chipped (even with the switchable on/off ones) (Ore No Ryouri for example)

-Games that won't play because of disc swapping/Disc Xchanger (Vib Ribbon--loads up, but then you can't go into the playing area of the game)

Definitely pick up an import PS2 if you can. They're not terribly expensive, like the Capt. mentioned above. That's where I got mine, and dealing with them was super easy.

Guitar Freaks also senses the chip as well, if you've modified the system. Besides, isn't chipping PS2's too time consuming/difficult/expensive to really be beneficial? I'm not too hip to that topic, so I could be wrong.
RIP bargora, you will be greatly missed. That is how we do things on Giedion Prime.
