    Default Kid Icarus

I too have always wonderd about that first room in Kid Icarus.

I have beaten the game hundreds and hundreds of times, and I have never gotten tested by the gods the second time through. I used to think that maybe the second time through it was possible, but I've never gotten it to work. Also, how do we know it's not one of those rooms where he gods give you a power up arrow? Come to think of it, that's what it would be...since the rooms where the gods test you work every time.

There is a certain amount of points you have to get to trigger the god, and even if you kill all the snakes you can't get that point value. Has anyone actually ever gotten that room t work (say maybe on the second time through?)?

I can't remember exactly and I can't verify at the moment as I'm at work, but I think the Nintendo Player's Guide shows that it is indeed an empty room. I think they either made mention of a God room or they actually put a little "god" icon on the room on the maps. This first room had neither.

Is the Japanese version exactly the same as the American version in layout? Maybe the room does something in that version.

I answered this in that other post, but I'll reiterate. Yes that first room is a God room, but there's no way in hell you'll be able to earn enough points to activate it the first time. You need to beat the game once and when you start over you'll have enough points to trigger it.

I'm going to take this opportunity to ask if anyone has played the GB version of the game, and if it's as good as the NES version.

Also, this game needs an UPDATE!

    Default Kid Icarus Tunes

Kid Icarus Gameboy--I've been wondering about that. Didn't even know it existed until recently. I recently bought a refurbished NES, 13 years after I sold my old abused one. I didn't realize how much I missed it. Playing Kid Icarus for the first time since 1988...wow. What happened to the composer (and of Metroid), Kip whazzisname? Two of my favorite soundtracks ever. He seemed to drop off the scene after those two. Metroid msuic since then has been nice and moody, but nowhere near as cool and memorable as Kip's!!
Y'know, with GBA reviving old 2-D games, THERE IS NO BLOODY GOOD REASON TO NOT REVIVE KID ICARUS!!!!! GM CHRYSLER, COME ON NINTENDO!!!! Don't waste this opportunity like you did on SNES!!!! >

Kid Icarus is surprisingly involved.. I beat the games several times as a kid, but it was only recently when reading it's FAQ at www.gamefaqs.com as to how much I missed!

I'd love to see a sequel to KI as well. I asked Nintendo Power a couple years ago and they did print it in the magazine (May 2001) so there's a chance it may happen.

I used to have Kid Icarus: Myth and Monsters (?) when I used to have a Game Boy. It was okay, but not nearly as good as the original. I can't remember too many details except one: if you fell you lived. This was one of the frustrating things about the original, but it forced you to become a better player. With that peril gone, it felt a bit on the easy side if memory serves.

The Famicom Disk System version saves the game to the disk, doesn't it? Is that first empty room related in some way?

I concur with Tempest: my Official Nintendo Guide states that yes it definitely IS a god room. Though even after beating the game I went into the room and nothing happened.

Time to break out the Kid and see how rusty I am...

That's exactly what I did...and I quickly discovered that I'm drowning in rust lol

But I've also discovered something else: this game can potentially be a frustrating hell for new players. One wrong step on the vertical levels and its all over.

Yeah, some new-school players I had play the game thought they did something wrong to deserve the treatment I gave them.

I forgot about the grassy looking platforms. Squat on them, you fall through. The game is educational though: it teaches you the ills of credit cards. You can find a credit card in the Treasure Room (if you are lucky) and then can buy items you can't afford. However, you'll have to pay back the difference immediately, so any hearts you pick up go straight to pay off your balance.

This may sound funny, but KI actually influenced a major life path of mine (well, one of my biggest hobbies besides games, that is) at an early age: It made me research everything possible about Greek myths and many other religious studies followed after that. Weird, Huh?
