Default Planning imports on a Saturn

How would I go about playing imports on my american Sega Saturn. I know have three Saturns so I figured if I need to buy a mod chip, or solder anything I could without worrying about killing the consoles. Also I was wondering if it was true you can buy a cart thing-of-a-bob you in the cart slot to play import games.

If ya don't wanna mess with putting a region switch,in or getting a jpn saturn then try this.

Best converter you can get for the saturn.

Btw mod chips are for playing burns...not playing imports on the saturn.

yeah the modchip isnt really necessary and on many saturns like mine it can be a challenge (64 pin versus 21 pin models the latter being easier)

I use an ST key I bought for 7 bucks but may need to get one of those 30 carts soon since I need a memory card and wouldnt mind the extra ram for improved animation performance

A hardmod via a region switch will always be the best way since it leaves the cartridge slot open for games that require a special ROM cart (King of Fighters '95) or RAM expansion (most Capcom fighters, Metal Slug, etc.).

    I would recommend a modchip + spindle of CD-Rs.

I use the Action Replay cartridge myself. The only problems I've seen with it is when you first install it or take it out and reinstall it, the console may not recognize it. Pull it out, reinsert and so on and so forth untill it sees it.

The, Saturn's cartridge port is totally unreliable, so I can't recommend using a cartridge to play imports. Especially if you have three Saturns. Just hard mod one of them permanently into Japanese mode, it's incredibly simple to do. You break one jumper and close another. You don't need to use capacitors, just a blob of solder will do. In fact, you don't even need to use solder, you could duct tape a piece of aluminum foil to the PCB and it would work fine.

See the GameSX Saturn mod page for excellent instructions:

I use the Action Replay myself, but then I only use it to play Dracula X, so far.

Action replay hasn't let me down yet. Considering only KOF 95 needs a ROM cart and that can be found elsewhere now, it's not exactly a major loss.

And my, does the saturn have a lot of good shooters and fighters.

The AR+ seems like an insanely good deal to me considering how much it does. I think you can even use it to play 4M games in a JPN Saturn if that's what you want to do.

I had InsaneDave mod my Saturn with a switch I believe a year ago, so sometime around then. It's been great being able to just hit a switch to go between US/EU/JPN regions. The only thing I regret is not getting a chip mod done so I could test out some import side-scroller shooters before dropping the money required to get them. I would suggest this site:
    http://www.segagagadomain.com/welcome-news.htm

They usually have a decent short review and has swayed me a few times from buying a few imports.

www.gamengai.com <-- I try to be pretty honest, although a lot of the reviews were written years ago. My opinions and writing style would have changed drastically by now.
