Hang little pockets on walls, put games in them
Alternatively save those little papers soaps come in and put the games in them.
Isn't there some kind of appropriately sized storage rack? I have to admit, I don't have this problem; all my loose GG games (or GG games in the plastic cases) are thrown into bags or lying around. Props for having enough GG games for this to be an issue!
Stack them alternating. One goes face up, the next goes face down with the slot facing the opposite way. Same works with GBA and GBA games.

I have enough game gear games now, that I started with plastic bags and now I moved onto just storing them in a box.

The only easy way to do it is make sure they all have the plastic case or box. If there is no case I stick with the 69 stack method. GG carts are simple to stack compared to those annoying GBC rumble carts.
For Game Gear carts I just kept them in the official carrying cases I used to come across along with the systems. I sold off my Game Gear stuff but that's what I used to do, I had several systems each with their own case.
