Dark Seed and Prisoner of Ice for PSX. They are Japan imports with Japanese menus, but the voices are in English. Easily playable.

I used to have Riven on PS1. Absolutely horrid without a mouse. Sorry I have nothing else to offer...I just needed to vent.

Riven was also horrible on PS1 because you had to switch disks between areas. Considering it was I belive a four disk game, the exploration was truly annoying.

PS Riven was 5 discs., & not horrible.

You stayed on an island (disc) until you boarded a tram & rode to another island (switched discs.) So, you werent really in any danger of wandering aimlessly & suddenly prompted to switch discs. Hopefully, you soon realized if you rode a tram, you'd have to switch discs.

lol omgggg, i remember playing a demo of this under windows 95 back when i was a kid and being in love, im considering bidding on this game, but realistically, apart from what u just mentioned with the house, import friendly is it as far as language is concerned? is it just that one part and then no more text after ever or???

EDIT: also was there a reprint or rerelease of this game in japan? im looking on ebay and i find 4 copies, 3 of them are the same with an orange disc, but the last one is a lime green colored disc, anything u can share on this would be appreciated

The PS1 port has no English anywhere. There's actually quite a bit of text in the game - clues, mostly.

    Get the PC version instead.

If you include D, you might look at Sentient. Very ambitious mess that can be some fun.

What about platform puzzle/adventure titles? Like Heart of Darkness or Abe's Odyssey/Exodus?

I have a soft spot for those. They're odd, but on the right day, those games are fantastic to play around with and die a million times.

Fox Hunt: Can't go wrong with Rob Lowe, George Lazenby, and Capcom. Been awhile since I played it. More of an fmv game but funny as hell.

I played that game! It was a PC game rental from a local video store. At the time I thought, "How strange. Why would CAPCOM publish a Western-developed FMV PC game?"

Two Japanese releases that I know of are:
    Night Head: The Labyrinth
    Prisoner of Ice

Prisoner of Ice is also on PC and Saturn, and the consol versions both permit mouse control.

heh, now I see Prisoner of Ice was mentioned 5 years ago.
I really like the character and art style in that one.

Too bad that Titanic: Adventure Out of Time didn't get a PS1 release. That one is my favorite in this genre by a mile.

Echo Night is a fine game though. It saw a sequel on the same platform, I believe, but I'm unsure if it kept the same style of gameplay. It was sadly a Japanese exclusive, and I very much doubt that it's import friendly.
