Hi, two things:
1. the title to this thread SUCKS, it should be - URL registered for FF13-3 - or something that tries to describe the contents of the thread
2. the link doesn't work, it should be
http://www.blisteredthumbs.net/2011/...on-for-ff13-3/
Other than those two things - why is FF13-3 such a bad thing?
Couldn't this just be a "just in case" type of move? Companies register trademarks and domains all the time just to keep somebody else from doing it first.
Wasn't there an issue in the past year or so involving somebody registering modernwarfare3.com or something and redirecting it to the Battlefield 3 website?
Jesus, they haven't even released part two yet!
Cool.
If they end up actually making a third one and it end out great then we get a great game. If not then maybe square will drop this sequel concept. I don't see a down side here.
On that note I still don't get all of the hate XIII gets. It was very very linear and that was a definite turn off for me however the battle system was fun and interesting (and no I didn't use auto), the characters were actually somewhat believable, and the game was simply gorgeous. Its slots neatly in the category of Final Fantasy games where I enjoyed the ride but eventually traded it in, with one play-through (at the moment) being enough.
My personal list: Blue=Replay Orange=Alright Red=Never Again
Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy IV
Final Fantasy XIII
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy V
Final Fantasy III
Final Fantasy II
Mine would consist of.
Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy V
Final Fantasy (about 100 times)
Final Fantasy IX
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy IV
Final Fantasy X-2
Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy II
Final Fantasy XII (I'm still trying to finish it. I want to like it. If only the battle system didn't have these flaws.)
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy XI
Final Fantasy III
Final Fantasy XIII
I had no problem with the gameplay of FF13, though it became a grindfest once you got to Pulse.
I might be interested.
<Evan_G> i keep my games in an inaccessable crate where i can't play them
We don't know anything other than they registered a domain name. No one panic just yet.
And let's be absolutely clear about one thing: Final Fantasy XII was the last good one. I refuse to hear the haters.
There's only one major problem with the battle system and I'd love it. Why did they make you choose an ability then the ATB increase?
Example. You have one spell to be cast. It increases your ATB. But oh shiii, you want to change your mind and cast something else or do something else. The ATB completely restarts from scratch.
Example 2. You're attacking enemies and you don't want to take the time to separately control your allies. Your attack lands the killing blow, but your allies had a full ATB. It doesn't auto swap to the next target. ATB needs to refill again.
What would have been good is if ATB filled before an action was performed. Say 100 was the most common denominator to go from 0 to 100%. But what if spells like cure, fire, etc, took 120 to fill to 100%. If those skills were chosen during that time frame then it would be an additional casting time. What if a potion was used? Potions have their own almost instant ATB. It would have worked out much more nicely, but they way they have it now the ATB resets after every little thing.
Just like life.
FF13 was a total shitfeast. I know I made a post in the past about this but I can't find it.
Horrible combat system. You can only control one out of your three party members. ONE.
Stupider story than usual. My god, it made zero sense from THE START. At least most FF games have the common courtesy to seem coherent for the first 75% of the game.
Vapid, one dimensional characters. Even the main character rarely spoke and it's not like a Crono from CT kind of thing, it's a she has no personality kind of thing. And I've never seen so much anime prostrating in one game in my life. But hey, "WE CAN DO IT! YEAH!" *raises his arm up into the sky for no apparent reason and to no one in particular*
Nightmarish J-POP soundtrack.
The only FF games to be avoided are II, VIII, XIII. II because it was made for sadists, VIII because it was made for the Twilight crowd and XIII because it was made out of nice looking but otherwise awful shit.
If you played XI in any sort of amount of time, you'd find a very nice FF game underneath the MMO pretext. Which is why I didn't include it above. X is borderline but I left it off; never played X-2.
I'm with G-Boobie. I liked FF12 very much. The active combat was a nice change. It wasn't truly FF, but then again, the game hasn't truly been FF since the series hit double digits.
Surprise: Final Fantasy 13-3 is actually just a confusingly named sequel to 7.
I kinda agree with you on XII but its not on my list since I haven't really tried to get into it. That was the only Final Fantasy game that I've been truly disappointed by and one of the big problems is what I like to call the "Tidus Effect".
I like a lot of things about Final Fantasy X but I could not stand that Tidus was the main character. I couldn't identify with him or his issues and he came off as just being another Bishōnen anime trope character. Practically the whole game I really wished that Yuna was the main character and that left such a bad taste in my mouth that it slotted it squarely into orange territory.
I had the same problem with Final Fantasy XII the several times I've started playing it and ended up quitting. My biggest problem with that game however was the battle system, because it felt and looked like something out of an MMO. It just got old and tiresome really quickly for me and I just can't seem to get over it.
