Default Will a gold or black Game Genie prematurely wear out a NES' 72 pin connector?

Years ago, I recall my cousin's NES never working quite right after he used his Game Genie in it, and I am also fairly sure I have read online other gamers confirming this. In my combing of DP I have read that the black/purple Game Genie sometimes has thinner connector pins than the gold version that my cousin and now I have. So what does anyone know about this? Are black/purple Game Genie's easier on a NES or is it only certain ones? In the thread (which is specifically about the Top Loader and Game Genie compatibility, by the way) that I linked to there is even one post that says that the gold Game Genie can have a thinner connector pin. Bleh.

    So...

    1) Can Game Genie's wear out a 72 pin connector or was my cousin's experience a fluke?

    2) Is there a thinner connector pin Game Genie, and if so...

    3) how can you tell?

absolutely. The first releases of game genie use a much thicker board. Not really sure how you will be able to tell the difference, model # maybe? Id say most early Gold ones are thicker. Perhaps you could find a sealed copy with a later manufacturing date? I recall GG's are pretty cheap even new, at least at some point in recent time they were. Or you can do what my buddy does, have a dirty whore NES specifically for use with Game Genie and another that has never had a GG inserted in it, shes still a virgin.

Yes they will. I have a Game Genie that was released after Super Mario Bros. 3, and it bent the pins in my system pretty badly. My Game Genie is black.

Color makes no difference. It's what's on the inside that counts. Joke aside, my uncle once had a black Game Genie with a thin board that fit in a toploader just fine.

I'm a collector, but only to a certain extent.
Not as extreme as Rickstilwell though.[/quote]

Interesting. To fit my black one in the slot, I really have to jam it in. Makes it hard to pull out.

    >_>
    <_<

    Giggity.

But seriously, careful when sticking any Game Genie into a toploader.
