You might have severed a trace or two by scratching the board, do you have a multimeter on hand? Also pics?

The problem I usually have with the Master System and the Genesis Model 2 is a broken solder joint at the base of the power jack... also, I have all kinds of problems with the power supplies themselves. There's an electrolytic capacitor in there, and over time all of the electrolytes leak out and/or evaporate.
You should go re-solder the joints on your power jack, then crack open your power supply de-solder the capacitor, and then replace it.
I hope this helps.

It should be fixable, just scratch off the coating on each end of the severed trace, tin the exposed copper and then patch it up with a wire. However, I'd advise getting a multimeter as it'll not only help you figure out if you have a broken trace, but also if there's any voltage flowing through the system.
Thanks for the help, yeah I have not been able to get a multimeter because of cash flow. I will test it out when I get one. I also need a desolderer
I am glad I didn't ruin my SMS by scratching it up. I need to get better at my soldering skills.
Theres more than one way to desolder. One of the best in my opinion is to buy the wire braid. as it does not require and suction. DO NOT buy the solder sucker that looks like a syringe on steroids. its a spring loaded air sucker. and when your working on a precision job you dont need anything jumping to catch some solder. plus the wire braid is only a couple bucks.
a new 7805 will bring this console back to life.
