I remember it being discussed before. Was there ever a list created here listing the long box playstation titles?? If so, can someone point me to it.
Thanks!!

I don't remember the list either and in case a list wasn't done, I'll add the first game I know to come in long box: King's Field (the sequel King's Field II came in standad CD sized box)
And if I calculate correctly, I should be getting a new fruit by now.
Another day, another dollar... wake me when it's payday.

Joe, That list STILL isn't complete!
You're missing:
The Chessmaster 3-D
1995 Mindscape Cardboard design type Long box.
Thats true. And I have 1/2 of the manual to prove it
What do you mean by "long box"?
Wow, you mean you never saw one of the older PSX titles that came in those huge, rectangular boxes?
OH THOSE!!!
Yeah BlockBuster used to have a Gex with that kind of case... I just didnt understand tha name "long box", my bad. :/
Where were you when we were compiling this list?!Originally Posted by video_game_addict
Ah well. I'll update it now. Thanks for the info.
yeah, i saw this list in tips and tricks too. its the one thing i do look foreward to each month.
Somebody once told me to get a life.
I told them I sold it for money to buy video games.
I'm not sure if this is the proper thread, but it's close.
I checked out a Jumping Flash! 1 auction on eBay today and noticed it has one of those black pseudo-cardboard boxes early PSX releases came in. That surprised me, because I have a copy of JF! 1 (bought new in 1999 or so) and it's in a plastic Sega CD-style case.
Interesting. I wonder what other variations of this sort exist.[/url]
Resident Evil, Agile Warrior and a few others also were released as both Longbox and non-Greatest Hits jewel cases. I'm sure there's more, but I know of no complete list at this point.
Also, here's the problem that I ran into compiling those releases that came in both - its basically impossible to check on ebay. Software Etc. and EB, among others, have been cutting the old manual, or printing up "covers" for Longbox games and putting them in CD cases, even though the games were never released in that state. It's obvious when seen in person, but a picture on ebay of a Longbox game in a jewel case is tough to decipher.
Given the collective experience of the people who visit this board, it shouldn't be impossible to compile an accurate list over time. We could get a good list going just from the games the people this board own alone.
Most long box PSX games were available in both the plastic case and the Saturn/ Sega CD style cases. Sony was running out of and couldn't produce enough of the plastic cases to meet their production demands and had to scrounge around and get the Saturn style cases after awhile. Their were plenty of those around because Saturn was already dying. I actually heard they bought them from Sega at the time. They switched to cardboard because it was cheaper to produce and still allowed them to get the visibilty on a store shelf they wanted. After awhile they when they had started blowing Saturn out of the water, they switch to the standard jewel cases because they already had the facilities in place in the US to package the games. I once heard a PSX title was delayed because they was a new Mariah Carey album coming out that was hogging up production time from the same facility.
DP!
I found another one today that wasn't on this list!! V-Tennis by Acclaim. I passed it up for $10 but might go back to get it tomorrow along with that other copy of Return Fire!
Here's a pic from a recent ebay auction:
Dp and anyone else who wants it: I believe the list I made for my collection purchasing for when I do ebay transactions is complete as to LB games.
http://people.bu.edu/cure/Playstation.doc
It lists all the GH that I know about. I have a similar list for DC that I will post once I finish my investigation of cover variations.
Very Nice Kevin! You too might want to add V-Tennis to your "longbox" list. Also what about the Collector's Edition games that have been released of late in packs of 3? I realize these aren't sold indivisually but people will be buying them used indivisually, so it might be something to make note of. They do all have unique packaging and alternate disc colors, just like the greatest hits. Either as DP has done with seperate listing under their own "Pack Name", or as "collector's edition" listed after each title listing. Just something to think about.
Yup, very true, vga. But I use DP's list for my collecting =). The list I made is just for when I'm out buying (to make money to buy more videogames, of course).
The one item I want to add to my list is cover variations - for instance, the Collector's Boxes, and the titles that were released in both LB and non.
Thanks for the tip on V-Tennis, I was almost sure that I had that listed as Longbox, but I'll have to remark it.
