View Full Version : Which Cube games suffered from lack-of-space (1.5gig disc)?

This is just my opinion.
Not fact.

IMHO:
- Eternal Darkness suffered from not enough space (blurry backgrounds & fuzzy FMVs).
- Ditto Tales of Symphonia and MP1 (blurry backgrounds).
- And Megaman Collection had fewer extras than the DVD versions.

What's your opinion? What other games also suffered from not-enough storage space?

None. When they ran out of space there was a disk 2. Some of the best games for the system are two disk; Twin Snakes, REmake, RE 4 and IMO Killer 7. None of which suffered. Save perhaps Killer 7, in sales...

The Gamecube version of Lord of the Rings: The Third Age RPG was released on 2 discs. When you were on the 2nd disc and wanted to go back to a location that was in the beginning of the game....you had to switch discs. Even the multi disc PS1 RPG's didn't require you to switch discs just by visiting an earlier town or location. Lame. Still a respectable RPG overall.

Yeah, it's much easier for a linear game (like RE4, MGS:TS, Killer 7) to use 2 discs but when it's an open environment like Metroid it's just not as practical.

K7 even had beautiful cutscene with minimal compression. Truely an amazing game. Like Remake and the rest, it really didn't suffer at all.

RE and RE0 did require you swap discs to go back to certain locations, but for the most part it was pretty fairly spaced out.

Why couldn't this go in your other Gamecube thread? Is the finale of Veronica Mars on tonight?

This is a comparison
Time Splitters 2 for Gamecube and Xbox. There was more features on the xbox verison. This is not the xbox live one, so it's a good "mano y mano" look at the cross platform game.
I know it's not a popular game but it was fun aka Goldeneye.
The xbox version had a few extras, can't remember but that's what made me buy it for the xbox (and that it was 15 bucks)
But the disc space did make the difference.

You're right. There wasn't a "lack of space" because games were released on multiple discs.

Yes, but in the case of games missing features that where in the Xbox version, the "lack of space" means features get dropped. They aren't necessarily going to manufacture a 2nd disc just for the Gamecube, they'd much rather drop the extras and save on the manufacturing costs...especially considering the Gamecube version is expected (maybe) to sell the least of the 3 consoles.

Of course, triple A titles like RE4 or Metal Gear designed specifically for the Gamecube aren't going to run into this problem.

Several games had pretty bad quality FMV compared to the ps2 and xbox versions, full of compression artifacts that wouldn't have been there if the cube used DVD's.
Im guessing the limited disk space was also a factor in the GTA games not making it onto gamecube

Sounds like the old days with 1980s computers ("please insert disc 6 now"). You had to become really adept at disc jockeying those old five-and-a-quarter floppies.
