This game kinda looks like an old Gamearts or Treasure game. Check it out.

Well, judging by today's comic and comments, the Penny Arcade guys sure seem to love it.

Atlus made a game like this on saturn. It's called Princess Crown. It has a Jp psp release too.

Yeah, Odin Sphere is sort of an unofficial sequel to Princess Crown.

This game looks awesome, The more I see of it the more I want it.

Here is the official trailer for the game http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zaOwyYZe7w8

This game looks gorgeous. I am just afraid that this will be the last great 2D game on home consoles.

I thoroughly enjoyed and loved Princess Crown on the Saturn. It still has some of the most beautiful2D graphics and animation around. I've already pre-ordered Odin Sphere and I'm counting down the days....

I honestly thought Valkyrie Profile was going to be the last of the superb 2D games... but, low and behold, we have Odin Sphere. I'm putting my $5 down on this yesterday! Daddy like. :D

I just saw over in the May 2007 Finds thread in Classic Gaming that a lot of people are pre-ordering this game; it was the first I've heard of it. Funny, because earlier today, I first heard about Grim Grimoire (I learned of that one from Hardcore Gamer, not here), which the same people are making and also looks cool. I'm really broke, and there are a lot of games like this that look cool and might be hard to track down in the future coming out in the next few months. I wonder what I'm going to do... Sell some shit on eBay, I guess.

MSRP on Odin Sphere appears to be 39.99. I was fully expecting ~$50. Might not be alot less but, when your broke, every bit helps.

Wow, I was planning on buying this game regardless of score cause I think this is an important genre to support especially on home consoles, but damn it already got a 10/10 from one reviewer http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/936463.asp.

Anyone have a scan or link to this review?

This the second game to the Princess Crown series. Princess Crown is basically a 2d pangea rpg that at the time followed the Slayers band wagon Japanese RPG. The gameplay is simular to those Western D&D arcade game but like I said
Japanese.

It was sappose to be a Dreamcast game but they decided to make it for the PS2.

I believe that if we was to mail the people at Game Arts and tell them to make it for Dreamcast we could be seeing a major game. Otherwise don't get the game at all.

It is a Dreamcast game on the PS2 like Ecco or Shenmue II on X-Box. A complete waste of money.

The atmosphere of the game itself is like Inuyasha or for the 80's anime fan Hamlien. I mean come on great the deamons are being released and Crown is in a sleep and everybody shows there age.

So the game isn't even out yet, but you're calling it a waste of money? Or are you calling Princess Crown a waste of money? Don't knock a game you haven't played. Makes you look ignorant.

I own a copy of Princess Crown and played it very thru. I am very familiar with roleplaying games and I am not saying this game is bad I am saying it is a waste of money to buy it on a PS2.

It is going to be great and going to be spectacular but when you think about it it is not really:villagepeople: it's more like:band: It is going to be like the transition of Rumiko Takahashi works over the years.

Most RPG games on the PS2 sucks anyways why not this one. Look what they did to Inyuasha RPG. That has to be the worst game ever created on the face of the earth using N64 effects and models.

Just don't jump for joy yet when you purchase this game.

This review is by the same guy who gave Sonic the Hedgehog on 360 an 8.5/10.

That said, I've had a preorder paid in full on this for a couple months now, and can't wait for it to ship next week. :D Though, considering how much buzz there is around this game I would't be so absolutely sure it'll be hard to find in the future. Even if it is an Atlus release.

This games artwork is really unique, everyime I see Odin in a trailer or a screenshot it just looks so damn awsome.

However, looking at trailers (i havent read much into it really) but it does seem like a VERY repetitive game. Unless there are towns that offer more than just a pit stop with a couple of characters to talk to, it seems like the whole game revolves running around a super zoomed in screen hacking and slashing the whole way through, which is fine if you like those kinds of games, but a game like this probably has a nice story and acting to back it up.

I normally don't play RPGS, But the fighting system has got me fired up for this one. The more I see the more I like. I am very happy that we are getting some 2D love.

That's a good video review. I didn't know there would be extensive crafting and other non-combat-related skill development. That makes me want the game even more now.

I fully expect to see this game average no higher than an 8.5 in mainstream games media, no matter how good it is, simply because it's a 2D game on a modern console.

Still frothing though... :D

I'm blown away by the animation in this RPG...it's like "Viewtiful Joe" and any game made by "Treasure" in 1 solid game.

I can't wait for it and Grim Grimoire either. I won't have the money to get it when it comes out so I'll hope to find them in one of the larger pawn shops (I got Rogue Galaxy in perfect condition for $20.00 a couple weeks ago).

Most RPG games on the PS2 sucks anyways why not this one. Look what they did to Inyuasha RPG. That has to be the worst game ever created on the face of the earth using N64 effects and models.

I thought the PS2 and the SNES were the systems with the most and best RPGs. I didn't know Dreamcast had so many mind blowing RPGs. You used an Inyuasha RPG as an example...

Also, Odin Sphere is going to suck because it was supposed to be on the Dreamcast but is now on PS2? That attitude is weird and very common for some reason...

Trust me you are wasting your money. Also never pre-order anything from any game store especially Gamestop like store.

It is like when they port something just because it is a new system. The game is a game for the Dreamcast and not the PS2.

Also it is the PSX that has many rpg games on it not the PS2. The PS2 has so many suckie RPG games on it. I mean they are not even trying anymore.

Still getting it Rugal :P Your half-assed critism only served to strengthen my resolve to get it, day one, with a preorder, at Gamestop! lol I only hope I can fit it into my Paper Mario and Zelda:TP rotation. Less than a week to go now. :D

EDIT: Seems Princess Crown is a little on the expensive side already. Considering most Saturn JP imports are getting near dirt cheap. Anyone else forecast a jump in value for Princess Crown through the release of Odin Sphere?

I've owned this game for about a month now and I gotta say it has great animation, good action, descent voice overs. The only thing is I played it once a night for about 2-3 weeks and had to start playing something else because I was becoming bored with it slightly. I do recommend this game to fans of Valkyrie Profile, Guardian heroes, and any other 2D Rpg of any kind. Just make sure you put another game into rotation or you may feel like putting it down (and it may be a while till you go back to it *thank you very much Etrian Odyssey).

I am completely captivated by this game. I'm about the furthest thing from a "graphics whore" than you can get, but these visuals are just breathtakingly amazing. It's like playing a piece of art.

The combat is interesting so far - a great balance between item use, powers, guard / avoidance, and assault combos.

The food / recipe system adds a lot of depth to the game, too - I'm constantly on the lookout for more items to get and use.

I'm very, very impressed, and I was starting to think that I was such a jaded gamer that all of these shallow console games couldn't rope me in. Guess I was wrong - I'm enjoying Odin Sphere immensely. I might go pick up another copy so that when it becomes $100+ I can make a tidy profit.
