My first thought was that this was an Onion-esque online newspaper, all satire.

If only.

Ah the Daily Mail. At least the Sun recognises it's own stupidity. The guy they get a comment from, Keith Vaz, seems to be setting himself up as a bit of a rubbish version of Jack Thompson. Luckily no one really pays any attention to him.

I wonder how much the recalled mags will be worth in the future?

I'm also wondering how this happened. Who decided to pull the plug, especially so late on after inital copies had been sent out? Someone at Sony must have thought it would be a good idea to hold the event in the first place, so why not report it? The PR guys are either quite cunning, or someone's going to end up fired from the looks of things!

Just wanna make a general comment here:

Normally, I don't nitpick people's spelling mistakes, but Vagitarians? Are those people who only eat...nevermind.

I don't understand all the sudden outrage. Sony's been cruel to animals for years now. Doesn't anyone remember Spawn the Eternal or My Street?

The fact that the story is most likely fake still seems to be lost on you blowhards.

20 bucks said Sony started it to get the goat fanboys all hot and bothered.

That's a very pig headed an arrogant stance. You state that there's no difference but you don't really prove it. YOu're just stating your beleifs over and over again.
Yeah, you're right. I got a little...overzealous there. Sorry. But actually, my point was precisely that this is the sort of thing that can't be "proven." It's a matter of perception. Would you ask me to prove to you that green and blue are different? I can't do that any more than you can prove that they're the same. It's a matter of perception, not reason.

Oh and there is a real difference between Morals and Ethics. http://atheism.about.com/od/philosophybranches/p/Ethics.htm
Oh man! I guess I shouldn't be too critical of an article about ethics from about.com, but this guy makes a ridiculous error. He's contrasting ethics with *MORALITY*, not morals. He says:

morality refers to moral standards or conduct while ethics refers to the formal study of such standards and conduct
Morality--like ethicality--is action or attitude informed by what is moral or ethical. Ethics--like morals--is a body of knowledge about what is ethical or moral. So of course they have different definitions, but only because they represent different categories. He should either compare ethics to morals or he should compare ethicality to morality, but he can't take one term from one category and the other from the other. Unless he *WANTS* his argument will be totally misleading, that is.

Oh, and by the way, there were a few other ancient Grecian rituals I think they should have incorporated. Like homosexuality.

Dude, have you ever been to Mykonos? There's nothing ancient about some things...

(BTW: The previously mentioned Greek anti-video game law was totally thrown out).

Misspelling was intended. If someone is not eating meat for health reasons, thats fine. If someone of those chest thumping PETA freaks, then give it a rest. Look up how many animals are killed each year when the grain you eat is harvested.

it's shock tactics... remember they did a similar thing with PSP and the "racial slave" poster, along with the "take a running jump here" poster where 20 kids commited suicide when PSP started to flop?

As they're taking losses left right and center, and people are starting to lose interest in Sony, so Sony release some major shock tactics, get some free press, then say "sorry, we fucked up" as they sit back and wring their hands with glee as interest in their products go through the roof.

Sony's amazing PR at work...they sure do get people talking about them.

Off topic - not a bad rack on the girl in the pic... shame about the red titty paint. Why not just let em go paint free?

It's never too late for you to see the light.
So change your ways, and do what's right.

I stayed out of this one, but Njiska told me to read it.

GRG, your crazy. This isn't suicide, its the Sony marketing machine at its best. They didn't do anything wrong here, in fact, they took steps to make sure it was done correctly. It was already dead, bought from a butcher, no food was eaten from the carcus. Its called a show, a spectical, and it was done quite well from the looks of it.

I just read the magazine author never even attended the event! Its all selacious jornalism at its finest.

Now where is a baby seal when I need one.

I'm not sure why, but after reading this topic I got a serious craving for Gyros. Has anyone else experienced this? (Lamb, not goat. AFAIK there's only one place in my city that sells goat and it's a sketchy looking warehouse in the ghetto.)

Hmmm, sketchy looking warehouse in the ghetto eh? It's most likely stray-cat gyros not lamb.

I get my gyro-fix at a Greek place. It's lamb/beef mix and soooo yummy.

Hate to tell you guys, but if you oppose what Sony did, you have inadvertantly helped them anyway by posting in this thread and creating buzz.

The apology was written well in advance, I'm sure, because no company is that dumb. See, when they issue an apology, the buzz starts all over.

Sony wins.

I completely agree.

Oh, and by the way, there were a few other ancient Grecian rituals I think they should have incorporated. Like homosexuality. In ancient Greek culture, homosexuality was very common. In fact, many Greeks partook in pederasty (sex between an older man and a younger boy, which had often been kidnapped). Plato once described Socrates as "boy crazy," and it is suspected that he was executed for having sex with one too many little boys.

True but a modern day party based on homosexuality would just be gay.

LOL

I am confident that this thread created absolutley zero buzz and is responsible for zero copies of GoWII sold.

You'd be wrong though. I wasn't aware of GOWII before this thread started (I don't really pay attention to PS2 games now that I've got a 360), but now I'm thinking of buying it. After I finish the original GOW that is.

Just to prove you wrong I am going to secure a copy of GoWII and tell the clerk that I am buying it because of all the hype and that this game will be rare in the future.

I might even try to track down some sort of PS2 dongle just to make the trip 'worth it'.

I also heard that slaughter houses kill tons of cows all the time. Can you believe that? I also heard they feed it to all of the world. Something has to be done about this. DON'T EAT BURGERS!!!!!!!!!

Many Animals Harmed in Catering of Film

LOS ANGELES—More than 50 animal-rights activists picketed outside the gates of 20th Century Fox studios Monday to protest the fact that hundreds of animals were harmed by craft services on the set of Mel Gibson's Night Of The Desert Rose. "Nearly 400 chickens, 14 steer, and thousands of shrimp were viciously killed in the making of this movie," protester and PETA member Jacqueline Zimmer said. "And these weren't dignified deaths. Some of these animals were deboned and had their skin ripped off before being fileted, sautéed, and placed atop a bed of so-so rice." Cinemeals, Inc. issued a statement that read in part, "Although we regret the need to kill animals, sometimes sacrifices must be made in the service of voraciousness."

You know whats funny is that I actually have a preview of GOW and it does have a dongle. You need the dongle in order to boot the disk on a TEST ps2.

In regards to mythology-if I'm not mistaken, isn't mythology a part of culture?
Sites I saw said that it was unusual to find a goat slaughtered in such a fashion. Of course, just that its neck was cut like so isn't really a sign that it was killed that way.

Also, grossness. I'm not grabbing in a dead goat's stomach.
