View Full Version : Can't Miss GBC Titles....HELP!
Just basically looking for a list of some "can't miss" GBC titles to pick up. If you name anything that is preceded by "Pokemon", I reserve the right to inflict bodily harm on you or your loved ones... I know for sure that the following titles are must haves in my book.....
Wario Land 3
Zelda: Links Awakening
Zelda: Oracle of Ages/Seasons
Blaster Master
Donkey Kong Country
Lufia: The Legend Returns
Who else has a few titles??? Also, any really good GBC fan-sites?

- Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel
- Dragon Warrior I & II
- Dragon Warrior III
Ghost Babel is an instant classic, and the DW games are remakes. I & II are much less grind intensive thanks to some balancing tweaks. III is great, but I can't make comparisons since I've never played the NES original.

Check out Toki Tori, a platformer puzzler with some of the best use of color on the GBC.
Sweet. Thanks for the replies thus far! I have definitely added three games to the list.....
Toki Tori looks flat out awesome. I'm impressed.
Survival Kids is EXACTLY what I'm looking for.
Super Mario Bros Deluxe....God, how did I NOT know about this??

Well, if you're open to imports (text-heavy ones, at that), I'd recommend Star Ocean: Blue Sphere, which I regard as the best game ever, GBC or otherwise. The Beatmania games are fun Japanese imports too, as long as you don't mind playing rhythm games with standard controls (rather than a specialized controller).
In Europe, they got some great Konami Collections where they'd gather up four old black and white Game Boy games on one GBC cart and add color to them all. My favorite is Vol. 3 because it's got TwinBee Da! and a Goemon title, neither of which came out in the US, but there are also ones with the first two Game Boy Castlevania games and other great stuff.
Since the Game Boy Color is region free, it's really easy to get into importing games from all over the world.
But for some American stuff, you definitely gotta add Wario Land II if you like Wario Land 3. I dunno, maybe you left it out because it's not a GBC exclusive (although in Japan it was; they just made a black and white version for the West since we didn't have the GBC just yet at the time).
Hmmm, Natsume's GBC releases are pretty nice, like Harvest Moon and Legend of the River King, but they too first came out in black and white. Mario Golf and Tennis should be no brainers unless you're totally adverse to games remotely related to sports. Mega Man Xtreme is pretty good for a somewhat remake of Mega Man X. Oh, and I've heard nothing but good things about Magi Nation, a Japanese-inspired Western-developed RPG, but I've yet to put serious time into it myself.

I wish I could read Japanese. I was a fan of the Star Ocean exposure I've had so far... The Konami Collection games from Europe sound great and I'm POSITIVE I'd check into them. It doesn't hurt that I'm a Castlevania fan. I didn't realize that it was a region free system, and I've also been interested in import games as a whole for quite some time. I'm new to GBC collecting, so you've been VERY helpful as to the import scene.
Wario Land 2 will go on the list. As I said, new to GBC collecting so that'll explain my oversight. I'm not BIG on sports games, but the Mario sport series is probably not something to be missed. I've played Strikers/Superstar Baseball/Tennis/Golf on Gamecube so why not GBC, right?
I didn't realize Harvest Moon released on GBC!!!! It's definitely in my top 5 now. I've always wondered about Legend of the River King, but I didn't know if it was worth a try. Maybe I'll just give it a shot.
I'll do some homework on Magi Nation as well. It sounds like my kind of game.
All in all, thanks for all of your insight and suggestions. I am definitely picking up a couple of your games at minimum....

I'll second Super Mario Bros. Deluxe. It is the best version you'll ever play of the game outside of the NES one. If you ask me, it beats out the GBA version and the Super NES rendition on "All Stars." The fact you can save your progress each level and there is a great challenge mode makes it a near-perfect version. The cool thing is that even if the battery goes dead, most anyone can beat SMB in one sitting.

Survival Kids is the best game on the system and one of my favorite RPGs ever.
Aside from SK I'd go with Deja Vu I & II, and there's also a good British import of Scrabble, if you're into that.

I picked up Nectaris GB not too long ago and have been having a lot of fun with it. It's a great portable version of Military Madness.
