Your story, minus the whole stealing bit feels so much at home with probly everyone over the age of 30. I still wonder how in the hell we afforded all those quarters back then.

A few months before we moved, I had discovered an Asteroids machine at a nearby Pantry Quik. My friends and I were all equally horrible at it (nobody used the thrust button because that meant certain death!) but we played it religiously.
HELL YES.
Same exact thing with that thrust button. "Oh no, I'm out of control!" LOL
