Hey all,

OK, about once every 5-7 years I update the MAME collection. It's been about 5 years since I messed around with it so I got an all new set and am running MAME32 V .113. Years ago I bought a Hotrod controller for playing the games. I unpacked the beast and plugged everything in. OK now the question:

How the heck do you tell MAME32 you are using a Hotrod? In the old MAME32 there was a selection for the the Hotrod and the Hotrod SE (mine). But now...nothing. Checked Help settings and there is no mention of it. Do I have to revert to an older MAME? All my new ROMS are for .113 uggghh frustrating. Anyways, any and all help is appreciated. Many thanks.

Well, it has been some time since I have had a hotrod myself, but from what I am to remember the buttons and controls are simply mapped to keyboard controls. Mame should simply work with the hotrod right out of the box. Just in case it does not, you should be able to edit the mame.ini to allow hotrod control.

It's weird. I couldn't map, however I did some more web searching and downloaded v112 which still had the Hotrod as an option. Weird and wild stuff. Count me happy though as it does not take much to make me happy. I got this working and Adventure II in the same week. Woohoo I'm stoked. Thanks for the suggestion, it is greatly appreciated.

If things are still the same, there are different builds of Mame32. I forget which build has it but there is definitely one that had Hotrod support built in as a selectable controller option.

The place I usually check for the different versions is the mame newsgroup (alt.binaries.emulators.mame and a.b.emulators.misc). But barring that, I wouldn't be sure where else to find it unless someone can enlighten me :)

Recently there was a complete ROM flood in a.b.e.mame and I grabbed the entire collection. Unfortunately, the headers do not indicate which version of MAME the ROMs are for. Is there an easy way to tell?

Most of the time the flodds are for a newish version unless there is a request for an older version. The only way I can think of is to post the question in the group or to download them and send them through RomCenter or ClrMame and cross my fingers...the games will off run anyways even if you have the set for the wrong version. The .chd files are the problem for me...

I'm not sure whether or not my question should be a new thread, so erring on the side of 'use the search!!!', I'm adding it as a followup to this thread.

I've got a full set of 0.78 MAME ROMs.

I want to use Mameox, on my Xbox. Mameox wants 0.84 ROMs.

A) Can I use the .78 ROMs?
B) Assuming not, can they be converted somehow, or do I need to re-download or otherwise acquire a whole new set of 0.84 ROMs?

Get CLRMAME from www.clrmame.com

Get a copy of the MAMEOX Clrmame .dat

Copy your MAME roms to a folder

Load CLRMAME with the datfile

Tell it to fix your roms.

Most will work, but some won't. That oughta do it.

I'll try that. Thanks a bunch.
