View Full Version : Ever Cry Over Games?

In my youth, I'll say I haven't always been as calm as I am now. Things needed to be right, right now. Though true for many kids, I think that some get worked up too much like I have.

Come christmas some time ago, It was a big family get together where we opened presents and ate. My three uncles, their respectful others, my cousins, and my grandmother and grandfather. It always seems to be this way with everything in my family. We jam whatever and whoever we can into this one big event, like a "Christmas, Birthday, bris, etc. happy-fun-time party."

Anyway on one of those specific days, my uncle got me a certain shaped box.(You know what it is when you see it, Its a video game! Of course you know, you only dream about them and stare at the selection every time you're at Prange Way!)

So come opening time, I hastily await my turn, as we opened a present one at a time. Sweaty palms and anticipation feed me during these crucial minutes, and then it arrives.

I say "it's gotta be a game!"

My uncle joked , "who knows? Maybe it's a book."

I open, and what do you know? It's a copy of mega man 3!

Did you know that mega man 3 is my favorite game? In the whole wide world? Like I consider it the reason I still play older games to this very day? This should be the greatest day of my life!!!

Well, you are wrong.

Why not, you say? It would have been great if not for the simplest little fact:

I already had the game.

NOOOOOOO!

What was I to do? Well....cry of course.
Yes, I balled. Like a baby. "It's okay, we'll get you a different one". I didn't pay attention. All I cared of was this day, i did not get a new game, and was distraught by it.

After calming down, I realized it was not that bad. They didn't know what I had or what I wanted, so it was fine, and it ended up all right too.

Around february, I got picked up from the babysitter that night, and my dad said,

"Oh, Uncle Pepie got you this. Remember, from christmas?"

I opened the bag it was in, and I looked. "...Batman?....Return of the Joker?", I went.

"Wow, I never even heard of this coming out" I said, looking at the strange grinning face looking back at me. Because, as a kid, you know everything about video games, right? "Well, let's give it a try, " I said. And you know what? It's really my second favorite NES game now, and was a blast to play back then.

I'm glad that the incident happened with enough of a cusion to it. I don't think I looked like a jerk, but it's not the best way to react immediately. It was when I calmed down and talked to my uncle that it turned out alright.

Now that I am a collector, I know to take it easy now when we don't get that certain item. Anticipation of games and systems seem to get the best of our emotions at times. Even though we should be old enough to realize that, It doesn't always work out that way. I always think back to times like this to remind me:

There's a difference between reliving your childhood and acting like one.

Matt-El you are such a spoiled brat :P

Yeah, I would've been happy to get something other than socks and sweaters as a young child.

Anyways, thanks for the daily dose of sunday school morals.

I remember crying because my Mom wouldn't let me rent Zelda 64 again (I had been reanting nothing but it for nearly a month), so my sister picked out Iggy's Wrecking Balls.

It was actually fun, and I plan on trying to find a copy.

I cried last month when I discovered my kid had erased my nearly complete Need for Speed:Carbon saved game.

I didn`t cry, but I remember being emotionally drawn when Aeris died in Final Fantasy VII.

I have THE dumbest crying story. Ever.

*sigh*

So, my friend lends me a few DS games, one of them being Elite Beat Agents. If you've played through this game, you know there's only one possible spot where a crying story would come in, so you will see this coming.

Being a "pick up anytime for a minute or two game", I happened to be playing the next level on the throne. Level nine, a.k.a. the Christmas level. Now, not that I've ever been a stable person to start with, going through the intro sequence to that game I exclaimed before the gameplay even started "This is so not fair...". I felt the tears welling up before the music started.

The song? "You're the inspiration" - uber cheesy 80's.

Now, I was able to kind of hold back and play the level, but as soon as it finished and saved I started bawling. I felt doubly sad - first because of how sad the level was, second because I WAS ON THE TOILET, BAWLING AT A RHYTHM GAME.

Dude, I didn't cry for Aeris, I was fine at many other sad-RPG moments. But apparently a sad little girl and cheesy 80's fare get to me.

that's my story, you may now laugh. *bows*

I've never cried over a video or computer game. However, the closest I ever came to crying was when Floyd, the robot from Planetfall, was killed. That was a very sad day for me. I didn't cry, however, as that would be unmanly of me.

I actually DID cry for Floyd, but it was a single, manly tear -- just like the "don't litter" indian.

That pretty much sums up my reaction when Floyd died.**sniff**

That was a manly sniff, BTW.

When Nei died, I cried. I couldn't go to sleep that night because I started crying again, and I had to take Benadrill to go to bed.

I started to cry when my uncle started teasing me a little too effectively, telling me I wouldn't get an NES one Christsmas, even though I was almost certain my mom had bought it. They staved it off, however, by letting me and my brothers open it early.

I bitched out my mom then cried, when she bought me E.T. for the 2600 one christmas....

"E.T., you bought me E.T.? That game is $35.00!!! You could have bought a game that I *WANTED* for like $27.00!!!! Do you still have the receipt???"

I got the crap beat out of me that day, then I cried.....

No, but I did swear up a storm, because of Hydlide. There is still a long, large tapestry of swearing, anger, and disgust that hangs over my home from outer space to this very day. My grandma heard me and said, "Are you trying to anger God with your filthy mouth?" I said, "I think he'd understand if he played Hydlide."

I think that sums up my hatred for Hydlide.

What is funny Hydlide never changed one bit. It is probably one of the most annoying RPGs in world.
