The year was 2003 and I was full steam into my video game collecting. I had started to collect non mainstream video game systems and games. I had a friend invite me over to show me something that he had bought...something that was pretty obscure. Upon eyeing the beast, I did not know what to think, or what it was. Upon firing up the system, I was spoiled to the treats of the Bally Astrocade. Incredable Wizard was an incredable port of Wizard of Wor. Artillery Duel was miles ahead better than the 2600 version. Then me and my friend got into a heated game of Dogpatch. The game was simple, yet nice twist of a pong variant. I was hooked and did not look back. The controller were odd, but seemed to work very well. I definately wanted to add this little odditiy to my collection. Over the next 6 months, I saved my hard earned gaming money to purchase a system. Seeing on one the internet, I won the system and a bunch of games. At the time, I was holding a bunch of gaming tournaments at my house with themes. I included Dogpatch to some other well known games on other well known classic consoles. By far, the heated tournament of the night was on Dogpatch. The language was flying, the Mt. Dew was being drank by the gallons, and most of all, young men were having a blast on an obscure game on an obscure console. After the tournament was done, people at my house still wanted to play the system and Dogpatch. The gaming tournament to me was a true example that good games dont have to sell millions, have great graphics, or even be on great systems, they just have to be fun.
